5.0xl/V8 mer. Where do I start?

Ditch the starting fluid and use gasoline to prime/pop off the engine. Fill the filter full and reinstall. Add another 5 gallons of gasoline to the tank. Prime the carb bowl through the vent and attempt to start once the new pump is in place Not a bad idea to inspect the fuel pickup and anti...

    Broke impeller shaft help!

Definitely seals and gaskets as you need to fully disassemble the upper drive half to replace the shaft Might not need to change the shimming, bearings and gears but the only way to know is by inspecting and measuring with the new shaft installed

SEI Alpha 1 Gen 2 lower ratching noise (with video)

Yes The propshaft should lock CCW in FWD gear and ratchet CW. Lock CW in REV gear and ratchet CCW. Spin freely both directions in NEU This is due to the design of the clutch dog and gear face teeth being ramped

    What is this component???

Looks like a circuit breaker. Definitely not part of mercruiser oem engine/harness wiring Some boat manufacturers will add these breakers to a (+) battery post for accessories/helm switch power Mercruiser oem wiring for the dash/helm power and ignition circuit is part of the engine harness and...

    VP 5.0 2005 vs. Merc 2005

Based on the picture posted it appears the dispenser system faucet is separate/independent from the fresh water system/faucet Guessing there may also be a basin/faucet in the head and possibly a spray nozzle/shower near the transom. Looks like the water fill/cap is located port side swim step...

    2006 Trophy 2052WA 4.3 merc I/O

I've never had to remove an exhaust manifold to get to the starter but I've had some extremely tight access to quite a few Sometimes a mirror helps see when access is blind

Mercruiser 3.0 Leaking Water On Top of Manifold

With the engine running on muffs use a mirror and light to inspect under the intake/exhaust manifold near the area where the head mounts to the block and you might locate the source of the leak

    2006 Trophy 2052WA 4.3 merc I/O

First check would be 50 Amp breaker on the engine, should have power on both sides of breaker. If no power on either side check the in-line fuse at starter post (if equipped). If all is good with those items check the 10/14 pin harness connector between the engine and dash Finding no issues...

Surprise My electric car is not charged.

Technically planet earth is still in an ice age. We are currently experiencing an interglacial period (period of time between glacial periods) and based on research should be entering a glacial period beginning roughly 1500 years from now. Research has determined that the cool-heat...

Shift shaft seal on alpha gen two

I've never replaced just the seal Recommended service is to replace the entire cover/seal assembly, 2-4-C grease on the seal lips prior to installing the shaft, gasket sealer on the o rings and bolt threads

    3.0 tap/knock

First "distributorless" 3.0L I've ever seen, not many out there Sounds slow enough to be a valve/lifter issue Would recommend a mechanic's stethoscope, cylinder drop test, running without the belt, removing the drive and running the engine, try running on the water under a load, etc....

Alpha one o/d driveshaft pic.......never seen this before?

That kit isn't for an alpha, it is for an older, MC-1 style drive and won't contain the o ring in question R/MR/Alpha One/Alpha One Gen 2 install kits have the additional o ring and a different gasket with the hole/seal area for the gear lube monitor valve

Removal of Flex Seal coating from hull?

Different strokes, fella I find it odd that in a free world someone would impugn another's idea of fun. Fun is discretionary to an individual's taste and is part of the beauty that makes all of us human beings. I find the idea of using a stationary piece of equipment for exercise to be quite...

Alpha one o/d driveshaft pic.......never seen this before?

Later model Alpha One (not gen 2) drives have this additional o ring on the splined input shaft to aid in keeping grease in the engine coupler as well a serving as a vibration damper If you've ever used an oem or aftermarket drive install kit (gasket, o rings and large quad ring) you will have...

Looking at buying a 2006 Bayliner Cierra 2455 that has seen better days at auction with an eye to restore it. Not sure what to look for.

Caption in photo says mercruiser but one picture clearly shows a cobra drive. Your offer should include them paying you for removal

    Hi-Lex side mount control

Normally we'd see the neutral safety switch wires from the controller as yel/red The controller in the picture looks a bit on the older side and is not a mercury/mercruiser branded controller from 1986. It's possible the oem controller has been replaced and someone used an older, aftermarket...
