It's 18' Starcraft Starchief, aluminum hull. Pulling the motor is isn't a big deal, been there done that.

Everything was in fine working order. The drive was all the way up. The u-joint and yoke on the drive shaft are being replaced.

No glue? Is this to ensure the boot gets slid on further?

This is one reason you lower the out drive...

Well looking at it in the light of day, and after denying the damage the past several months, it looks grim. Here's some pics I just took. Clearer is always better and I can try if necessary. ##$&()&*#! So assuming worst case scenario, what are my options? Entire used Alpha 1 Gen 1 unit? Any...

This is one reason you lower the out drive...

I can get a pic when the sun comes up. But in the meanwhile I will say they are all gone. The ones that remained were so badly damaged or barely hanging on I removed them.

I am an idiot, just in case there was any doubt. I tried starting the motor without lowering the drive. Water was hooked up, got distracted for several minutes, jumped in and started cranking. If there exists a worse sound I surely never want to hear it. On this particular unit, the collar...

    Mercruiser 120 G1 A1 - Transom Seal

Yes, I suspected some hyperbole was in play. I'm not sure where a point if failure may exist however I can take a guess or two where water could maybe get in. So I will use some RTV around those areas to enhance the sealing. Thank you for your useful/helpful information.

    Mercruiser 120 G1 A1 - Transom Seal

Thank you for the information. Kenny Nunez stated the switch fails in about one year. I don't think a one year old switch would be considered old, but I've been wrong more than once today.

Any thoughts on what causes the switches failure?

    Mercruiser 120 G1 A1 - Transom Seal

On this particular outdrive, the trim limit switch is located in the top of the gimbal ring. The only practical way to replace this switch is to remove the gimbal ring. This turned out to be an adventure resulting in the complete removal of the outdrive from the stern. That said, I am now in...

My block number is 1M10082RQ. I'll grab some casting numbers off the block and see if I can discern any dating info there.

Actually, I was thinking there may data in the code that hints at a year. I've decided to fabricate a throttle linkage.
