    Overheating under load

If you saw the temp climb on muffs, with no real load, then I suspect you still have an issue. I believe 140F thermostats are more for raw water cooled systems, whereas 160F is used for closed systems with a heat exchanger.

Dometic RV fridge RH460LD any good?

One big benefit of compressor refrigerators is that they are way more efficient (lower amps) in DC mode than absorption. If you're running off a battery/solar, you want a compressor refrigerator. I don't hear the compressor frig on our 30' boat.

    Head holding tank pump out

I went through this on my 21' cuddy and just replaced the john with a porta potty. Super easy to remove and pour down a toilet. How much capacity do you really need for a day trip or three?

    Trailer surge brakes

That's a good question. I suspect the "self-energization" has a relatively small effect on overall performance given all the things at play in these surge systems. For instance: - Larger surge actuator piston diameter would create lower brake pressure (bad), but less actuator stroke or...

    Trailer surge brakes

Not quite. Brake torque equals force times torque radius, (T = F x R). Even if the brake piston size remains the same, the shoe friction load is further away from the axle (higher torque radius), so going with a larger drum or disc will result in higher brake torque. Now if the wheel and/or...

    Volvo Penta 7.4 overheats

Pull the drive all the way off and tilt the pivot housing up and you’ll see the hose connected to the fitting. On mine, I had to use a big hammer on the fitting end in your picture to break it free of the pivot housing due to corrosion.

    Wheel Bearing Inspection Interval

For me, annually, regardless of the lube system. Too many times I find leakage that requires bearing replacement.

    280 C-N. Corrosion

I'm not familiar with this newer drive, but I would pull the back cover off the drive and confirm the cable is actuating the gear selector lever fully in both forward and reverse. Maybe the cable wasn't adjusted correctly. With the cable disconnected you should be able to shift it fully into...

    Volvo Penta 7.4 overheats

That is a mystery. I would pull the drive and determine where the blockage is by repeating the water flow tests you've been doing. With the muffs on, does the water flow out the drive? If so, then try to seal the end of the hose to the transom side of the drive to see if water gets to the raw...

Adding dedicated battery for depth finder

I suspect he means a LiFePO4 battery, which are safe for boats. They don't need venting, but the above points are valid. A depth finder wouldn't be a big draw on the main battery.

Volvo Penta md5a fuel not reaching engine after filter change

During future filter changes or fuel system maintenance just be sure to complete the bleedd/vent procedure in the manual. If bled correctly at the filter housing, the risk of introducing air to the injector pump is low. On first start up after a filter change/maintenance, be ready to give it...

    Will vehicle work?

You will be over capacity when you add the trailer and the gear and fluids to the boat, plus you'll likely exceed the tongue weight limit also. Yes, you'll be able to pull it out of the water at the ramp, but it doesn't have the cooling system and power to tow any real distance.

    Volvo Penta Trim Gauge

First I would check the connections between the sender and the gauge to make sure they are clean and solid. Typically there is a connection at the back of the engine where the sender wires connect to the boat wiring, and the connection at the back of the gauge. If those are good I would...

Volvo Penta md5a fuel not reaching engine after filter change

I think the key concern is pre-filling a secondary filter on a diesel. Particles you can't see can clog the injectors. If there is only one filter in the system, I would fill it via the lift pump lever and not pre-fill. An alternative is to fill the secondary filter through the inlet ports...

    Impeller

Looks fine, though I would clean up the surfaces that the seal contacts on both the housing and the cover. May want to pull the impeller to clean the housing. Compressing the impeller with a zip tie is an easy way to install it.

Volvo Penta md5a 1982 diesel Delphi 296 replacement

To properly bleed a diesel fuel system you need to completely fill the filter bowl. Then find the downstream lift pump and there should be a small lever on it. There should also be a bleed valve on top of the lift pump. Crack the bleed valve and pump the lever many times until you get a...

    290 DP Prop Cone/Nut Torque

I've been noddling how I'm going to drill out the center of this broken center bolt with a left hand drill bit and I discovered a cool tool to keep the drill centered, a hinged sighting drill. The end of the prop shaft has an internal taper, so this should work pretty well. Thought I'd share...

    Overheating at 30mph

Have you checked the water inlet on the drive, item #9 in post #7? If that's cracked that can lead to your symptoms.
