    Gauges not working

You have a loose ground connection at the helm. Start at fuel gauge and go from there

    Sealing electrical connections?

Good luck tinning a wire after "black wire" disease has settled in. Once black wire death has set in there is no turning back. It will eventually wick its way from one end of the wire to the other. Adhesive lined shrink wrap is the only way to go when it comes to sealing wire connections...

    Lowrance Transducer Cracked

Sonar transducers are not "accurate", per say. Far too many variables come in play for any type of accuracy spec. Sonar transducer are primarily designed and rated for their ability (sensitivity) to detect the minute differences in density. This ability enables them to detect and "paint a...

    aluminum wheels stuck to hub

As a surf fisherman, corrosion is a major concern since everything you own and drive is subjected to the wrath of salt and sand on the beach. I've found both CorrisonX and CRC 6-56 to work equally well on equipment. Even spray down the tackle lockers and boxes every now and then as...

    Sealing electrical connections?

And I’m sure a number of “freshwater” builders still use untinned wire as a cost saving measure. Use 304 instead of 316 hardware as well. Most cable/wires are PVC jacketed. As such, you’re looking at a life expectancy of 20 -25 years before the jacket hardends and wires start to get brittle...

    Sealing electrical connections?

It all starts with quality, tinned wire. Anything less is a short cut…. https://www.marinegeneral.com/product/ancor-adhesive-lined-heat-shrink-butt-connectors/

My turn with a old boat that has a sudden loss of ALL battery power in a 45 year old boat.

Replaced both my ground cables this Spring. The resistance values where starting to creep up Cant make a good cable for what you can buy them for. Been using these guys for a number of years now. https://www.customcableusa.com/ If you make the cables yourself, make sure you use heavy walled...

Fuel Dripping From The Carbs When It's Hot Out - 200HP Johnson 2001

Also notice that only a couple of carbs have the new (brown) viton gaskets which implies a repair, not rebuilt. Rebuilt my carbs this Spring for the same problem….new o-rings, gaskets, needles and seats, problem solved

    2014 Merc Verado 225

Less than an I/O… Change oil (motor and LU) and filters annually. Having said that, not a fan. Rather “doggie” for a 225 HP outboard. Much prefer a 6 cylinder

    Smartcraft SC1000 and vesselview calibration

Sounds like your “tacho” readings are analog, i.e. reading directly from the sender. Vessel View is sending digital, ie calculated data. As such, you need to calibrate vessel view separately for each system.

    Is this trailer repairable?

I too was into machining. Ran the machine and fab shop for 10 years. Left the position to manage the newly created Mechanical Design Department. I will not go into the politics of said notes........I'll just say, remember when anything and everything Japanese was "junk" as well? As does...

    Is this trailer repairable?

Steel "quality" is not understood by many people....lol Bear in mind, "bad pours" don't make it out of the melt shop. Down grades are the result of downstream processing errors and or physical damage. What is your definition of "junk" steel? Steel is graded at the Mill as follows: Prime...

    Is this trailer repairable?

On the contrary, processes and chemistries have improved significantly in the past 30 years. As has the quality of the underlying steel. Some of the cleaners and rinses have gotten a bit more environmentally friendly but any thing is friendlier than what was norm 30 years ago

Have never run or owned a carbureted 4 stroke. All 150 hp and above EFI motors. Like your car, they start with the turn of the key.

    Kicker on a CC?

Someone obviously........local marinas are full of twin outboard powered boats. Pretty much the norm for a 25' (600 hp) outboard powered boats. Triples are common once you hit the 36' (900 hp) mark. The commercial guys will be the first to tell you that maintenance, uptime and fuel consumption...

    Kicker on a CC?

Then why is there more and more single engine craft fishing offshore every year? Why so many single engine inboards on the fishing grounds? The real answer is you no longer need twin 150 hp to get above 300 hp.
