Fresh water corrosion and anode choices…

I would install aluminum anodes and see what happens. Certainly have to provide better protection than 20 yr old, oxide covered zinc anode

Replacement Battery for Mercury Bigfoot 60hp

Why is that? As long as the cranking amperage meets min. spec, no problem. The recommend battery for my 200 HP is 500 CCA above 32F, 675 CCA below 32 F I run two (2) 600 CCA, 160 RC deep cycle batteries. Have never had an issue starting down to 20F. In fact, you get increased battery life out...

2nd battery needed if installing prawn puller??

outboards typically don’t charge while idling. The rated output of the charging system is rated in hours of run time. A 30 amp system is charging at a rate of 30 amps per hour

    Water/Fuel filter

The pressure drop in a good quality, coalescing filter is less than 1/2 psi. Either the filter or fuel line is too small for the flow rate or you have something wrong with your fuel delivery system. I run a 200 hp with a 60 gpm filter. No problem drawing fuel from the under floor aux tank...

2004 merc 50hp efi starts and stalls wont stay running

A choke on an EFI? Never heard of such a thing. Injectors are very sensitive to fuel quality. Must a 10 micron filter to avoid problems. 10 micron filter? When was the last time the injectors were sent out for cleaning? Have you monitored fuel pressure while engine is misbehaving? No beep...

    Water/Fuel filter

When push comes to shove you can never have too much capacity (water) in a fuel filter Having said that, here is the small boat version. https://www.racorstore.com/racor-r23298-10-marine-snapp-w-drain-replacement.html

    Dead Batteries

Nothing really to test. As noted earlier, it usually come down to an outright failure Check ohms between battery and starter. Should be 0. If higher, pull individual cables to test separately. Check for repeatability of continuity thru the solenoid. Could ohm check through the switch as well...

    Dead Batteries

Nope….A dead short typical blows a fuse and shuts them down. A voltage leak, bad brush contact, corrosion, insulation breaks in winding, etc. can induce enough voltage drop to limit performance while at the same time, slowly dripping the life out of your battery.

    Dead Batteries

This happened 3 years ago, then again last Spring. Both times confirmed bad starter though the second time took a bit longer to diagnose due to the “smart charging” feature of the truck. Armature shorted to ground the first time. Second time (rebuild) obvious death by corrosion as evidenced...

    Dead Batteries

The first time the starter went out in the truck it started at the shopping center, no problem. Drove it home 15 minutes and it wouldn't start, battery at 12.4 volts. Put the battery charger on it for 10 minutes and it started. 40 minutes later, no start again. 4 yro battery. Drove up to the...

Interesting that you would say that........had to fax medical information to a doctor. Asked why fax.........for security reasons. More secure than e-mail

Had to send a FAX or "Back in the 20th Century."

I remember the early days of sending electronic drawings back and forth between us and our office in the UK via 2400 b/s modem. Transmission lines where very slow during the day time. Last thing you did before heading home for the day was to copy your drawing the "Server", dial and waited for...

What causes fuel to go back into tank after primin

You need an opening to atmosphere (leak) to break the vacuum of a sealed fuel line to allow the fuel to drain back. A sticking float valve would do it, as would a leaky fuel fitting. Fuel filters and band style hose clamps are another common source of vacuum leaks. FWIW: a vacuum leak...

    Dead Batteries

Charger is looking at the rate of charge to determine capacity. A dead battery, pulling very little charge, will register 95% full :;)
