    New Boat For Christmas

Contrats! It's turned out to be a good lookin' boat.

OMC sterndrive not moving in gear.

Take a look at your drive shaft in the upper gear case. That's the one that receives the shaft in your photo. The gears in your link are outboard gears, I believe. They don't work for your Sterndrive. With your lower off, does your boat start and idle okay? If so, I'd focus on the lower.

    Is Hull fixable

I concur: run. It'll be worth the wait.

OMC sterndrive not moving in gear.

If the engine is idling fine, and will rev up in neutral; and when you put it in F or R it won't go: my first suspect is the lower unit. Intermediate and upper gear case are turning if you can idle. It's possible you've got power problems up in the engine, but so far I suspect the lower.

My OMC, 305 V8 stinger has a Prop Lyft problem

Make sure you're getting all of the juice from the battery too.

    Sharp Door Stop

Scott's got a point too: you could even cover it with a rubberized paint or something. Probably a few things you could try before you go so far as replacing it.

    Sharp Door Stop

I think they're the same thing: or at least what I'm used to. Lift the door over the rounded end and it's held by the flat side. There's one when you want to stop the door open, and then on the boat I'm used to the latch holds it when the door is closed.

Unfortunately iBoats doesn't have them. Look HERE.

    Sharp Door Stop

They also make rounded stops too. My brother has them on his pontoon.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

This is was the first motor on the boat: it's still here at the house. A little dirty right now, but it runs. I have the 1957 Johnson 7 1/2 that we ran the most on it home in Tennessee, working on it as I can. We have an Evinrude 9.9 that runs it most of the time now.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Real close: Two golden retrievers and a schnauzer in the house all weekend, and my brother and I are leaving in a few to do some trout fishing. If the dogs are down at that dock, they're not sitting ... they're swimming. The older one will wear your arm out throwing a ball to fetch. My lab...

    PLEASE HELP IDENTIFY MY BOAT

Ooof ... who knows? Without a HIN, that's one of a zillion boats manufactured by any one of a few hundred flash-in-the-pan builders. As likely as not, it came from Sears or Montgomery Ward. You can do some looking HERE. But it's gonna' be tough to lock anything down with any type of certainty...

    OMC engine water flow.

^^^ was just typing something similar. Sounds like it needed to "load up." Impeller probably settles and gets it's vanes in the right place the first time you spin it, but not too much more than that. If you've got muffs on that drive, you can let it run and start drawing some more water.

Just thought I'd share a nice photo.

Up north Michigan with the family at our cottage this weekend. That Pierre Marquette rowboat you see is one of our battle hardened survivors. Nearly, seventy years old. It's one on my list to redo at some point so it looks nicer, but it works just fine.

How to launch stern drive safely?

While everything said here is accurate, and you want to pay attention to it: don't over-think it. Lower the drive as far as you safely can for the water conditions. Start the engine. - Idle should be in the neighborhood of 800 RPM (If I recall correctly). Throttle up for your gear to engage and...

How to launch stern drive safely?

I think you should record an audio of what it should sound like and post it. I want to hear how accurate your sound effects are 😁

How to launch stern drive safely?

Your drive tilts from one switch, and trims from another. Shallow water, you can idle in gear (like Scott says) and then lower the drive as soon as you can. After that you trim with the other switch.
