Checking out a 24' Four Winns with a 5.7 Volvo Penta motor

Check oil for presence of water (milky appearance) Engine for ease of starting smooth running and no odd noises. Check gauges at idle volts 13.5-14, oil pressure (cold 40, hot 20-25 or so) temp 160, might rise to 175 after coming off plane… Outdrive for proper shifting into gear and quiet...

    4.3 vortec Mercruiser..lots of questions

You have to check if the engine mount pads on your boat are long enough. The V8 block is longer so there is no way around that, the mounts are 3.5–4” forward of the V6 mounts. On mine they are and I’m guessing that if the boat was available with both engines they could be. The other issue is...

Checking out a 24' Four Winns with a 5.7 Volvo Penta motor

Yep that’s what you do. Not cheap but a good permanent solution. You’d need a 4bbl cast iron intake, and a Holley or a Edelbrock 4 bbl carb & low pressure electric fuel pump. Figure like 1200 in parts for that

Checking out a 24' Four Winns with a 5.7 Volvo Penta motor

in the GI the "I" denotes fuel injection, not sure if it is throttle body or port fuel injection, if it's a 2002, I'm pretty sure it is a Volvo SX outdrive. Should be painted silver. Like I said the problem you can run into is not being able to get spare parts for the fuel injection system and...

Checking out a 24' Four Winns with a 5.7 Volvo Penta motor

If it’s a 2002 it should be an SX drive which was a good unit. If it’s an EFI or throttle body injected engine keep in mind a lot of those parts are NLA, you’re actually better off with a carbed engine for a boat that age. First thing though is to check for rot in the structure! If a wood cored...

1st Boat and owner of a boat (let's be clear here🤣)

Also problems with the tilt n trim system can be isolated to the wiring inside the remote control, these wire can break because they are moving all the time where they come out of the housing and travel up inside the handle.

Is it possible to make up a different bracket for it so you can use the standard elbows for Volvo exhaust?

1993 OMC 5.8 EFI and drive system conversion to Volvo Penta

doesn't look too high, when you trigger the interrupt switch, does it drop the RPM in neutral to about 450?

https://www.marineengine.com/parts/omc-parts/omc-boat-parts.php?year=1993&hp=5.8&model=58FAPRJVN&manufacturer=OMC+stern+drive&section=Shift+Bracket I looked up what you have and it is as you described, you have 2 switches with the lever arm on them vs the one with the lever arm and the other...

    1989 Formula 26PC Twin Mercruiser 4.3LX, Alpha I, Gen 1 - Water Leak at/in Transom Assy

I would not try to lift the engines myself, there's a lot that can go wrong with doing that, and the "wrong" can be really bad with 600 lbs starting to move when you don't want it to. Might look at it this way, how long will you keep this boat? If just a few years, try the repair you described...

1996 Four Winns Sundowner with 5.0 Cobra engine and drive

Love the Alabama plate on the Chevrolet. Those trucks were everywhere when I was growing up. In our town in suburban Westchester NY, Ford was on one side of the street and Chevrolet was on the other side. My friend's dad was the Ford shop foreman so I got to check out all the cool cars they...

Could be I'd try to get a Carter marine pump if you can find it.

The elbows for the Ford EFI engines are different, probably has to do with the mounting point for some of the EFI hardware, that is not needed on the carbed engines.

1993 OMC 5.8 EFI and drive system conversion to Volvo Penta

There is a lot of confusion over what OMC did in certain years, and a lot of the documentation is hard to find because they have been out of business for so long. So what I'd do is post up a pic of what you have, I thought they eliminated the overstroke switch on the later models and used an ESA...

1993 OMC 5.8 EFI and drive system conversion to Volvo Penta

The interrupt switch is normally open and the overstroke switch is normally closed. This is from my OMC shop manual: for the interrupt: After disconnecting the plug for the ESA behind the shift cable bracket. insert the test probes into the male connector plug (blue leads). Ohmmeter should be...
