    Gimbal bearing install fail?

With gimbal bearings I’ve never had a problem with OEM. I’ve seen where several people have had fitment issues with aftermarket, just something to think about.

Time for Riser & Manifold > VP or Barr?

When I purchased new Barr manifolds I asked them about the paint on the gasket surface, they said to remove with razor blade. I have a carbon gasket scraper, I used that.

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

I know some will think I’m deferring maintenance, one of my current boat has the original bellows at 19yrs old. It’s been stored on the trailer with the drive down. I do plan to replace this fall. No visible cracks and fairly pliable still.

    Leaf Spring Shackle Question

I’m also in the mindset that they don’t have enough arch, they look almost flat. If the manufacturer is saying they are the correct springs I think the next thing to look at is the weight of the boat, has it became heavier over the years (water in areas it shouldn’t be). May want to consider...

    Sailrite Sewing Machine

Thanks for the information. Maybe I just need to dedicate some space for sewing and get a better machine. Very helpful. I have seen several different brands that look similar to the Sailrites. My Singer is a model 99k, it been a trooper and done way more then I ever expected.

    Sailrite Sewing Machine

Anyone have any experience with the Sailrite sewing machines? I’ve been using a 1950’s Singer for the last 10yrs and it’s done a lot of upholstery work. It’s time to upgrade to a portable mini walking foot machine. I see Sailrite has a straight stitch machine and one that can also sew zig zag...

    Boat Seat Replacement

Not too hard to do it yourself. A yard of vinyl isn’t too expensive and worst case you end up getting a new cooler. I learned years ago how to do upholstery. I’ve been using a 1950’s Singer and it hasn’t skipped a beat.

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

I think it’s 6 in one hand and 1/2 dozen in the other. Mute the alarm some with tape and risk not hearing it while underway or have an extra item that could fail in the system. It’s a risk I’m willing to take, after all it will do a system test each time I start the boat and will give a single...

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

This is what I ended up with, I used a generic buzzer for testing. I’ll use a more appropriate sized gauge wire and will make it so I just unplug the factory buzzer and then connect this to the factory connectors so I can revert back to the old style without cutting up the wiring. The...

Manifolds (Trying to figure out what I am looking at)

Any chance some water got into the spark arrestor while being in storage ?

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

I did stumble across this, seems someone from a JetBoat forum found the buzzer to be slightly more annoying and made this. I could use a more “sealed” looking board and do the same. It’s a few bucks for the programmable timer relay and I’ll just used the factory buzzer. You can adjust the “on”...

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

Thanks - In my mind the power wire to the buzzer was always hot and the fault sensors grounded out when a “fault” occurred thus completing the circuit and activating the buzzer. Your description helps.

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

This alarm stays on when the key is on and engine off. I’m not saying it’s suppose to, but it does. Once the engine starts and builds oil pressure the alarm goes off. If it was the low gear line alarm it would be on all the time right ?

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

I have had the same thought as a backup method. Putting in a red LED light as a warning light on the dash is a good addition.

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

I haven’t gotten this project done yet. It slipped my mind the last few months. Anyone see a reason why this would work? I believe the theory of operation is that when the ignition is on, the piezo buzzer gets power and the ground doesn’t complete the circuit until one of the “alarm” sensors...

Out to lunch Gear Oil Prices

My local Wal-Mart always has Startron gear oil for $10 a quart on the shelf. I haven’t tried it myself yet but I’d imagine it would be okay like most other gear oils that are changed regularly.

    4.3 Vortec Harmonic Balancers...

The harmonic balancer is neutral balanced and can be changed with no consequences.

Buying an '03 Sea Ray Sundeck 220

If it pushed out a casting plug then I think it probable that the intake and exhaust manifolds are cracked, at the least. Most likely the heads and block suffered damage as well. Any idea how long the water has been in the oil? I think you will find it likely will have decent oil pressure, that...

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

Thanks, that was my line of thought but wanted a second opinion.

    Alarm capacitor 4.3L

I did some digging online and found a OEM part number of 86045 for a timer delay relay. I don’t see this in my wiring by my horn, I don’t think it was ever wired in? While digging I found a photo of the OEM delay relay with Sylvania TR2032 stamped on it. Per a post on another website this...
