83 Merc 5.7 Rochester Choke Adjustment

I have a rochester carb with a "stove" bi-metal spring type choke. The when cold, the front choke plate does not close at all, making starting a matter of pumping 15 times and getting irrated. When it finally dawned on me that I was simply increasing the fuel quantity to offset too much air,I...

    Whoa Boat!

Several years ago, I was preparing to trailer my 15' runabout with a 72 Johnson electric-shift ( important detail ) engine. I had my 2 small kids aboard while the wife backed the malibu wagon down the ramp. I approached with a little more headway than usual due to a crosswind. I boosted abit...

I changed the prop to a new one ( also 17" ), no change. Everytime I take it out, it seems to increase RPM. Now, it shows...

    Sudden oil sheen in slip?!

I had a high r.p.m. situation caused by using an improper prop on my 88 merc 260 / alpha 1. Replaced the prop from a 15" to 19" pitch. Noticed this morning a thin sheen of oil or some petroleum product on the water in the slip. This thing is a pain to trailer. Is this something a worry wart...

What is the recommended prop pitch (alum)for a
Sunrunner 245 cruiser( similar to a Bayliner )245 w/ Merc 260 at about 5800 lbs? A prop shop recommended a 15 1/4 X 15 and it is over revving to 5700 rp.m.s. I am thinking a 19 or 21 would be better.
Also, what is a normal oil pressure at...
