    1956 Johnson FD-10 15hp.

It has been modified, a 56 would not have had a Fuel Pump. Word of Caution, that engine, may require a 16:1 Gas:Oil mix. While it has Anti-friction Bearings on the Connecting Rods and the Upper, and Center Crankshaft Bearings, it still uses Bushings on the Piston Pins, and Lower Crankshaft

    Weak tell tale on muffs?

Yes the Grommet is supposed to be placed in/on the Pump. A bit of Dish Soap can be used as a Lubricate to make it easier to install it, and the Tube. Also works well for installing the Impeller.

carb help on mercury xr6 150

Yeah, pretty much every used Engine runs like new when it is being sold... So you took the Coils from 2, 4, and 6, and put them on 1, 3, and 5, and the Motor ran on 1, 3, and 5? If so, that shows the Problem on 2, 4, and 6 is Upstream of the Coils. Have you checked for Spark using an...

    Another Flushing Question

To the first Part, No. To second Part, Running it a barrel, just recirculates/reintroduces the Salt, and reusing the Water the Next Day, just repeats that. Have you considered flushing it with Fresh Water using a Hose, and Muffs?

carb help on mercury xr6 150

Could be Carbs, could be Ignition, could be Compression Is it in the Water, or is it on the Muffs? A V6 can run on the Muffs just fine, with 1/2 the Cylinders not firing. Being that their are 2 separate Ignition Systems on that motor, and it appears that the Odd Cylinders appear to be firing...

    Weak tell tale on muffs?

What condition was the old Impeller? What Engine is that, one of those 4 cylinder Loopers? As for the Stream. Bad Camera Angle, and Focal Length/Distance, but it appears to be Solid right at the discharge. I suspect the Engine is not holding a steady Rpm, but jumping around, and that can create...

Can't get it to pump water, 35hp

Perhaps the Water Tube didn't go into the Water Pump, when the Unit was installed. How long did you run the Motor? If the Water was getting to the Block, there would be some being discharged through the Idle Reliefs and the Water Drains just above the Anti-Ventilation Plate, as well as the Prop...

115HP Mercury TOP (Tower of Power) questions

The 1978 1400 was a rerated/relabeled 1977 1500, because Mercury released the 150 Black Max in 78. In 79, the 140, had different Porting and Exhaust Tuning, and was no longer the inline 150. In 82 Merc Prop Rated the inline 6s, dropping the 140. However the Prop Rated Engines still had the same...

Ruh-Roh… a new gear case may be in order

You might want to fill all the nicks in the old Paint with a Spot Putty, as those nick/paint chips will really look nasty with fresh paint

    90hp v4 crossflow to 140hp build

Reeds don't have to be locked against the Reed Block, to be considered fine. A gap of 0.005-0.010" is considered acceptable as Crank Case Pressure will close them. While the post 84 115s are Prop Rated versions of the Crank 140(which BTW, really only put out about 128hp, but that was within the...

115HP Mercury TOP (Tower of Power) questions

If it is an 82, that would be the yr Mercury started Prop Rating the I6, and the Serial Number would be critical for a lot of Parts Mercury used pretty much the same Cowl Decal 1980-1983

    Mercury 150hp high speed misfire

Welcome to iboats Perhaps the Problem, which sounds like Fuel, could be something other than the Tank. How long have you owned this motor? Dirt/Gum/Varnish/Water in the System could be the Problem. Plugged Filter?

    90hp v4 crossflow to 140hp build

Welcome to iboats To turn a 90 into a 140, the Porting will have to be modified, the Block will also need machining to install the Components for the Bubble Back. The Carbs on the 140 are different, as they have to flow more Air. Some 140s also had Stuffing Blocks in the Crankcase side of the...

A Serial # for the Motor would make it easier to find which Carb Kit is required The Rebuild Kit you purchased, was it a Genuine Mercury/Quicksilver Kit, or a 3rd Party Kit? Also when you reinstalled the Carb, did you verify the Sync between the Carb, and the Ignition Advance? What condition...

To set the carburetor float level, remove the shroud; then unbolt and remove the carburetor. Remove the float chamber (23- Fig. J2, J3 or J4) and invert the carburetor body (5). The upper surface of float (lower, when assembly is inverted) should be level and flush with gasket surface of body...
