Single point drain leaks. Serious? Eliminate it?

I had those blue plugs until they crumbled. I went back with 1/2" common thread with lots of sealer, since I didn't trust plastic and engine heat. I would have preferred some sort of pipe threaded drain plug or combination, but I couldn't find one.

    Advice please

pull and put starter on a work bench and spin it over via jumper cable. If not, may be a bad starter. Pray that you have not hydro locked motor during offseason and the humming is due to starter Bendix being toast or ring gear toast.

    Different risers and elbows

You can buy a SS separator/spacer that goes between riser and exhaust manifold. Just sandwich between two gaskets.

Should I replace my wood transom or epoxy old one( with pictures)?

You have done a lot of work. If you now replace it, you will sleep better. Most rot occurs where or near an opening like a drain plug area. Use lots of epoxy and cloth.

    Another prop slipping thread

Before pulling OD and examining coupler, I'd lock the motor (best way) and then install a couple of jam nuts on prop shaft. Then with breaker bar see if you can turn over motor by hand via breaker bar. If everything is ok, install prop with motor turned off and use a 2x4 to see if you can move...

    briefly overheating

NOT real familiar with 4.5 MPI, I have only worked on Chevy V8s/carbureted. However, with a friend at helm and motor ON, wiggle temperature sensor wires and see if there is any temperature gauge change. Time to pull risers and test them, if salt water used. With a friend at helm switch, you...

Bad engine coupler or spun prop hub?

I suspect only prop hub is damaged and slipping. Take it to a shop for examination. If you can lockup motor so motor will not spin, you can remove prop and install a couple of jam nuts on prop shaft and use a huge breaker bar to see if shaft moves. If it does, chances are that your coupler is...

    Bad Transom?

Get contract with owner that you be allowed to go inside and drill small holes into transom to check for ROT. If not, bargain down the price justifying the added costs of replacing transom wood.

    New Motor same power issue

The popping sounds like timing issues, but issues at slower speeds sounds like what Scott says. Also, check screen in gas tank pickup tube, which may be blocked and starving motor for fuel. I had quad's on a 95 that also had electric fuel pumps because the boss on the blocks didn't exist. Stay...

When my boat is on the trailer, this happens.

In addition, I am not so sure that all Mercury/Prestolite ram or hydraulic relief valves perform as they were intended. I hit a log years ago and tore a Mercury OB off the transom of my boat. Not a fun day... Fear of sinking my boat due to valves failing, I always keep boat speeds lower than...

Dribble of oil at prop, usual suspects checked, now puzzled

You can buy a pressure testing kit. I suggest purchasing one and using it, or you will always have doubts. Every shaft seal I have seen was dry rotted, but they didn't leak. I guess I was lucky!
