    Proper prop pitch is also done, on a boat, fully loaded and properly trimmed. Once achieved, you must be in your rpm range.

    Can't quite tell but Michigan props have their own thrust washer...I recently padded one out using stainless steel washers modified by me to fit over the shaft. Proprietary system and could be your problem.

    You can always do it by damaging the crankshaft threads with a drill gun on the flywheel nut like others but most likely no one here will recommend it. Cast your own flywheel perhaps and mount that lawnboy starter ...I've seen harder things made. 🤪

    If your healthy enough to inspect it you may find it needs much less than $150. Also depends on your mechanical ability. Inspecting cost nothing. But regardless of your issue, having a bad back and boating don't go hand and hand. I'd wait and do it right. Always worked best for me.

    To answer your question directly, no do not use aftermarket stuff. Rebuild it...fuel diaphragm only most likely... But do the other things first. Question, if your mechanic diagnosed this, why didn't he just fix it?

    NOT good enough....compression. First line of racerone's comments. Time to give up on this motor. Did the mechanic who "tuned it up" know about the compression numbers? Might want to seek out someone else if he did.

    That's either a miss print, from a two stroke or a manual that covers everything. If an auto like my dead grandmother's Cadillac....was driven slow all the time then the valves get carbon on them. We used to pour tranny fluid down the carb while running and smoke the living snot out of a city...

    To repeat myself, the 25, 30, 35 carb is a direct swap (no porting, jet or intake issues) except I'm not quite sure of the year swap. That's not true in other HP ranges. Very simple task, while the motor is off...stare down the throat of the carb and see if the butter fly valve is completely...

    L & C is a must. Remove the cowling, put it on the lake and go to wot....push down on the carb linkage and see if it surges. Eyeballing the butterfly is easier though and is part of the l&c procedure.

    It should work fine with that HP range...did you perform the link and sync correctly? Is the butterfly completely flat or horizontal at wide open throttle? If so your main jet could be the issue.
