GPS issues on a 2359 HT

I'm in the middle of installing a Lowrance HDS - 8 On my 2359 and it seems that it can't get a signal on the dash. It would appear that the overhead console is interfering with the satellite signals.

Has anyone else had to deal with this problem? Any suggestions???????

This is why people buy units with remote mounted antennas. Only the open hull boats can manage with the internal antennas.

I know my Garmin 546 comes with a built-in antenna, but I also have the option to add a remote antenna to it.

If it's a Gen2 HDS 8, you should be able to attach an LGC-4000 external antenna to it. Mount it on your hard top. It will give you a better refresh rate and signal than the internal antenna too. Running the cable connection will be a pain but the end result is worth it. Check with Lowrance to make sure the 4000 will work with your unit. LGC-4000 - LOWRANCE | Marine Electronics

I went in and bucked up for a LGC 4000 and network kit, nearly 1/2 a boat unit but it worked like a charm. Too bad it wasn't included when you consider the price of the unit....I just set the receiver on the dash and it was gold.

But as I was cruising it would not hold the bottom after I got going with much speed at all. It did for a while and then would drop out. My old unit would register the bottom while on step till about 500 ft.

It has a 50/200 transducer. Any suggestions?

If it's a transom mount transducer, you may try adjusting the tilt. The transmitting surface of the transducer should be parallel to the surface of the water. Here's a pic of the way mine is set...
