I have a 1998 Stingray 180LS with an inboard/outboard Mercruiser. Sometimes the starter doesn't go. I turn the key and nothing happens with the starter although the other electrical is fine. To get it to go I wiggle the throttle from forward/reverse and back to neutral and then try again. And then it might go. I think it's a flaky electrical connection somewhere in the shifter mechanism. I assume there is a circuit that ensures that the engine is in neutral before engaging the starter. Should I take apart the shifter and clean all the connections? Anyone know of a good guide to help with out with this? Or a good explanation of how this mechanism works?

Once started the engine is fine.
