Another road trip out of State but Oregon was an easy drive to get this 22' OB V5 Islander jewel from a super nice guy on the Facebook SC group. He also had a fleet of 4 SC boats until I got there. :joyous:

With the deal done I latched onto the big 22'r and started for home.

y4mcDL0hWJrtI0GxlG2bJRfFLAxGL3iMqnzzJSfyyl3v5iu8ERpl5wOtNBi3IeRxmIVRri1p3DJOpw9OiZScDo-kn56Wn4ciJEONpN4ko0JC8lLxo2Csv-tlWPGHzSLEAAWzv54VCbQxNTbheeRRWDwiBd0EScoEmU6QHIkGJqbr3kGzxyMjFVjtb6BXTKiSkwWoJ7uLFqKsRgE25zP7efsow

I had noticed the right side trailer hub was leaking on the inside which means bad grease and bearings. 350 miles with freeways and desolation didn't sound like a good place for a break down so we pulled off into a outlet mall lot. Jacked up the right side and this mess inside. The outer wheel bearing fell apart when pulled out of the contaminated grease.

Big mess!

y4mDK9PHq3BKmwHTVXhCZ_87VHuwX1GLyRmMFA7dBNrPVX00e1TVkGfSanYAGuTPEHQah5CYhOXpG1Jj6rAMIWGhlYrAQfHDxNlTJs5OtEgxnlVNayB9_4DxOg8Bw3SMurxk72ouHtipIZGQgq5CbEOL7SCrGNjAuawSCsf3LClO2KzZIH_HoJmk98N0Z5U6f3I1on94yMtqkSU3x85eUnHTA

. The outer wheel bearing fell apart once out of the contaminated grease so after a few parts house stops I found a new bearing and we were back on the road after checking the left side.

Stops along the way to check the hubs with my IR heat gun.

Always an adventure, so I have less than 40k miles on a very expensive Flowmaster muffler and well it became an extremely noisy ride home. Oh and those muffler bandages, yeah they don't work and neither does Gorilla tape

The trip in the rear view mirror, it was nice to have the 22' V5 in the driveway.

More pics to come, First up I have some non ferrous metal and fasteners to remove from the hull and a couple of old batteries just to keep those issues away until I can get to work on her.

You are addicted aren't you. :)

Nice get, how abused is the boat?
Doesn't look like that hub was checked for a long time, good thing you looked.

Yeah so that was actually a rusty ferrous metal expedition, got to it this morning to relive the transom of some really nasty stuff.

I sure was happy to see this little plastic gem still in great condition.

Yeah Dan, I have a serious problem with Starcraft boat addiction and the admiral is close to breaking point with skillets in the future.

The boat has been well used over the years but not badly abused other than the 25" transom being notched out to 20". I think this will be a somewhat easy repair though to get it back to where it was.

Where did you find that one? That one picture looks like you were parked in the Rest Area on the OR side of the Columbia, just west of The Dalles?

Yeah MBS, just couldn't pass up this 22' V5 OB Islander I have to get rid of that nasty glasser soon, maybe that will relieve some pressure from the admiralty. ;)

Not a chance, the Chief isn't going anywhere at least in the foreseeable future anyway. The Islander is going to be a marathon not a sprint, it's size is ominous to say the least when compared to my 18' boats.

With the way the forum is working - Did you say you are now a hula dancer? Something about an Islander.

She should make a good upgrade from the Chief. Outboard, too!

It looks like pumpkin pie isn't a good wheel hub. It looked pumpkin pie cuz I'm zoomed down so bad to find buttons.

Great find , hope you got a great buy on it. Got a question, seein as she's a 22 ftr , are you going to give her twins after the body restoration ??
Sure was a good idea to stop when you did to look that wheel over , man that looks like YEARS of abuse, Hope you don't find more of the same in the boat.

I was wondering how long it would be before you had another project Rob. So After this one it will be a Chieftan Express?

Not sure about a monster Chief or Islander after seeing the 4' size increase I'm thinking better of wanting one of those.

Fuel tank was missing so I'm hoping for a score on the old rotten glasser having a serviceable tank.

Cabin is pretty spartan with nothing but cushions up front, no kitchen or dining like the similar sized Chiefs.

We all say this, Rob. LOL

Look for a 26 foot Weekender Hardtop - A 1 bedroom efficiency in front and a good sized cockpit. After you out grow this 22 footer.

Since the forum is working better for me and I can see the pics, I'd say you did OK. More than OK!

Congrats on the new addition Rob! You can't pass up a V5, can you? Seems like there are more of these Starcrafts in OR than WA, not sure why. Can't wait to see what you do with this one.

As appealing as the thought is of having twin OBs I'm considering right now a 200 - 225 XL shaft Merc of newer vintage. The other thing on the wish list is a nice low slung bunk tandem trailer for it. As it is now on this roller trailer I can't even look inside without a ladder.

wow cool project, looking foward to what you are going to do with it. Im not a fan of roller trailers either, you'll need to build some steps with all the climbing in and out you're gonna do.

How exciting is this! Nice to see you found another project Rob. A V5 Islander is what I am eventually going to look for when I do another one. Right now I just have too many other projects planned, firstly a total reno of my 2005 32 foot Forest River fifth wheel that I'm doing this summer.
Looking forward to seeing what you are going to do with this one.
