Well, I seem to have gone off the deep end and got myself a pretty rough 1973 Mariner-V 16. At least that's what I think. I've never attempted a boat restore before, but wanted a winter project. Here are a few pics of when I got it home. Purportedly there are no leaks, we shall see. I have attempted to upload a pic and it says. Invalid file data IMG_20170916_153215598_HDR.jpg Thoughts?

I am excited to share the experience with you all, and have been perusing all the wonderful information here!

Welcome Mac! There is a lot of good info on these threads. I look forward to seeing the boat and I hope you don't mind if I follow along. I for one have been using Microsoft one drive lately to imbed pics. Just don't use photo bucket.

:welcome: aboard and to the Starmada Mac,

Looks like you have your work cut out for you with the Mariner and trailer, makes me wish I had another project

I see you have some mates that are all in on having a boat too, free labor is awesome!

Not bad for a first day.. I have a bit more hardware, and possibly some wood in the bow. I washed out the inside with the hose (power washer on the way) and notice only one drip, and it was very minor. I know that is not the same as putting water in the boat, but promising nonetheless!

Hi Mac, How is the boat coming along? I was wondering if you are going to put a console in or just use a tiller steer? Also read my reply to you on my build.

Hey, I am not sure yet. Console would be nice for comfort and weight distribution, but more $ and complexity. It came to me as a tiller, but of course I now have a clean slate. There are simple consoles out there for 190.00, so not too big a deal, or I can build my own. I too am going with 1/2" for the flooring in an effort to keep weight down..

For the steering, perhaps I will let the motor decide for me. I am not really sure what to get, I am hoping for maybe a 40 2s, if I can find one. Keep the weight down as much as possible.

Nice to have a partner doing the same project.. I will get a bunch more pics up by this weekend, I started the transom, but a prior owner used non SS hardware in places and it is a mother to get out. Some people.

Hi Mac, The console on the boat is really a simply design, i will take detailed pictures and measurements of mine for you if you want to try to reproduce it, It is just pop riveted together and bolted to the side. As far as the grade of ply i am using for the transom is cdx and will seal it with several coats of marine varnish, going to use gorilla glue to sandwich the two pieces together.

What is wrong with your knee brace? From the pictures i didn't see anything. At least you don't have a big 3/4' hole in the bottom of your boat haha.

And i agree it is nice having a build buddy doing the same project :)

Could you do me a favor and take a couple of pictures of the transom from outside the boat, i need to see if it has a slight arch or if it is straight up and down on the metal. Thanks Mac
