I'm new to the Iboats forums, but I purchased a 1972 15' all original black Starcraft Nova last October, I recently completed the restoration but I'd like to share some pics of the process and see what you guys think!

I think you may need 3 or more posts or something before you can actually post pictures, but yes...the Starmada is fueled and fed by pictures of old Starcraft tin...as well as some experienced words of advice and recommendation from many of the members here :)

I may be a bit biased towards the '72 15ft Nova as well...

When I go to upload an image it says I need a URL to do so, even though I'm uploading directly from my computer. Am I doing something wrong?

Turns out you need 4 posts to post pictures, sorry if there a little blurry, had to down size them in order to fit the 2.0mb limit.

So....... I bought this looking for a small, cheap, rough shape, fixer upper good enough to be my first boat with a decent motor and some HP. After spending all summer searching through Craigslist and not finding anything, I happen to spot this Nova in a poll barn at a marina only 10 miles from my house. The guy originally wanted $4,000, but over a few weeks we talked him down to 1250. It didn't come with a trailer but lucky I work at the marina on my local lake and my boss gave me a trailer to pick it up with and store for the winter. Later after I down size more pictures I'll upload some of what it looked like with the original seats and carpet.

That'll be a fun little boat although you'll likely outgrow it quickly. Great first one though.

:welcome: aboard,

Looks like you had the typical rougher than rough shape boat to start with. I'll be looking forward to the after pics.

After putting it on a smaller trailer I started to disassemble the whole boat and sand it, took me about a weekend to get everything sanded. Didn't sand the inside except for the area under the splashwell where there was a battery that started crodded the side of the boat. The floor was a little rotten, only one hole major hole...
It was in good enough condition where I could use the boards as templates. The transom was in great condition surprisingly.

For a primer I used Duralux Zin-Kromate Like primer (yellow) and Pettit EZpozy Topside paint (black), I'm trying to restore the boat to what it previously looked like. There is a pretty big dent on the starboard side of the boat( shown in the picture below) I thought about hitting it out from the inside but the guys I work with said I'm better off just leaving it because the rivets in that area could come loose and I didn't want to deal with it leaking. You can barely see it with the black paint which is nice.

I don't think the Starcraft factory painted a Nova black, a PO must have.

The PO used to run a marina where he happened to sell the Nova back in 72. The 15' model was the only one that was black, the others were yellow.:)

Yeah, that was the factory color under mine as well. I've only seen the 15ft'r as a factory offered black with the red stripe and interior.

Looks real good. I hope you have better luck with Easypoxy than I did. Be real careful with it and USE FENDERS

ezmobee after taking the boat out of the water I noticed the easypoxy on the hull bubbled a bit. I could scratch them off with my finger nail...But other than that it held up pretty well.

She's a head turner! Were you able to bang-out that bow dent?
