1966 slickcraft ss175 fuel tank question

I just purchased a 66 slickcraft ss175,it appears in decent shape but the previous owner removed and threw away the fuel tank.im having a hard time with a replacement and was wondering if a aftermarket plastic one like they put in race cars would work.i believe it originally had a 18 gallon tank.thank for any help

i would look at measuring your space for the tank & look into moeller marine they make a wide array of sizes for fuel tanks pics of the boat would help
