SS 255 Add an outboard?

I bought a Slickcraft SS255 with a Ford 351 W engine. Unfortunately, ity had not been operated for 10 years and the engine was full of water. Rather than overhaul the inboard, I am thinking of removing it and putting two outboards on the transom. Does anybody have any comments on whether this is really feasible? What problems would I have to overcome?

This post was a while ago but I will answer and hope you find it.

Going to be much easier to either fix what you have or swap the boat for another if you prefer outboards. Converting would be an awful lot of work.

Suggest you find a used Ford engine and swap over the marine parts to try it out. Should not cost a whole lot to pick up a 302 or 351 Ford engine.

I am doing similar with the Chevy version now. I just bought a used short block assembly and then heads. I need to pick up a few more parts and by the time the weather warms enough to work outside, I should have enough to put together an engine. Then we will pull the old one and swap the exhaust manifolds, carb, distributor etc and see how it runs.

Good Luck.
