Bought it off of a friend for a little over $2k which seems like a steal to me. I have personally been out in it and know it is (was) mechanically sound. The inside and out are in great shape and it has a wakeboard tower. It has the Merc 3.0LX (great for fuel) and Alpha One Gen II. Pic below is sitting in the driveway. This is my second boat after a couple year hiatus in boating and I had to rebuild my last one from the ground up pretty much.... it was a 78' Wellcraft Air Slot 190 BR. Someone had trashed the upper unit gears, seals blown out in trim pump, deck rotted and put a new deck in, and had the crap Merc 370 that I upgraded to a 4" exchanger, alt kit, and aluminum exhaust manifold. After a couple years of playing with it I made a quick move for a new job and had to sell it quick. I will always miss that boat but this Rinker should now fulfill my obsession with boating once again!
Now... one catch to the deal was that he had left the outdrive up and uncovered through the winter and water got into the lower unit and cracked the housing. (Pic below) My girlfriend's dad is a great welder (teaches at college and is a press tank inspector for a big company). He took the lower unit to weld it and is going to pull it apart and check the bearings and seals.
But, am I correct to assume that in order for water to get into the lower unit in the first place, the seals would have to have been trashed? If so, then it's still going to need a complete rebuild.
In the meantime, I have found a good used lower unit at a good price locally and will be picking it up tonight most likely so we can get on the water.
