Steering Wheel Removal

I am new to this forum, but I've had great luck with ones for my cars in the past. Does anyone know how to remove a steering wheel from a late model Regal? Mine is a 1999 1800LSR. The wheel is plastic with a 3/4" nut and washer under the center cap. There is a "rack and pinion" system behind the dash and I don't want to damage the steering by forcing the wheel off. There is no allowance for any sort of conventional steering wheel puller so I am suspecting there may be some sort of button or clip that will disengage the wheel. Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thank You,

Did you ever figure this item out? I'm looking to replace mine as well, from a '97 2100 LSR.
