hey, just picked up a '98 Larson 186 fish ski boat. According to nada, the dryweight is only 1575 or 1625lbs. These numbers seem unrealistically low for an 18' bowrider. even an 18 bayliner is closer to 1900lbs. anyways if the boat is only about 1600 lbs, would i need to look for the lighest outboard possible to avoid difficulties getting on plane? i currently have a 115 johnson on it now thats 320 lbs, but i'm looking to get a 150 outboard (max rating).. I'm asking because if it such a light boat, i wouldnt want to add too much weight off the transom and make it stern heavy. theres alot of options in the 150hp size to choose from so figured id ask first.

Re: '98 Larson dryweight

Doesnt sound unreasonably low to me. It just wasn't a heavy boat. I'd max the up out. What is the weight differEnce roughly between the two hp's?
