1989 Four Winns 170 newbie questions

Looking at buying a 1989 Four Winns 170 and need some advice as to what to look for..Ive read that the underneath they have a rot problem? Is there an easy way to look or where should I start? Any help is appreciated!

What motor? For the wood, just do you best to make sure the deck is rock solid. ANY soft spots are usually trouble. See if you can get a look at the transom.

He said it was a 2.3 liter inboard outboard.

RUN AWAY. The 2.3 is a Ford motor with an OMC drive. For got out of the marine business years ago and OMC went out of business over 10 years ago. Parts and service are getting scarce for either.

Good to know. I was reading more into the rotting issue and I just dont have the time or tools to take on something like this if it needed repair. The seller did state the motor ran good but I dont need to bust out another thousand...

If you're looking to get on the water cheaply with the least chance of financial ruin....consider an aluminum hull with an outboard.
