My problem is where to position outboard on transom because of stepped hull.
I know on a boat without stepping, you place the cav plate even with or slightly
above keel line, but what about stepped hulls?? Even all the way down it wont
reach the bottom of the keel, so that theory doesn't hold water.
Currently I have it mounted in the 2nd hole from the top and have a nasty problem
with porpoising until I get to WOT and then it skims along pretty good. I'm thinking
of raising it one or two more holes since it now sits about 3 or 4 inches below the
bottom edge of the step, and I have to trim it almost to the extreme 'out' position
to reach 5500 RPM and hit about 48 MPH. The Merc prop calculator tells me I should
reach 57 to 58 MPH with my setup. I'm just afraid of starving the motor for cooling
circulation, anybody have a similar setup that can offer any input??

Thanx in advance!! Cyber.

BTW, my boat is a 17.5' Freedom 170, and I have a Mercury 150 HP XR4 on it.;)

Raise it one hole and see what happens. My hull is stepped and it took a little fiddling to get it dialed in.

WOW!!!! I can't believe raising it just one hole made such a difference! :D

Quicker outta the hole, quicker and smoother to WOT, and best of all,
NO MORE PORPOISING!!!! :)

Thanx for the suggestion ondarvar, totally made my day today, I was ready
to get rid of that boat and start over!! :mad-new: :faint2:
