To all:

So I'm a newbie, been researching bluefins for over a year now, finally picked up a spectrum, just wanted to see if there was anyway to get a manual or something that explains all the functions of the boat? maybe even a wiring diagram??

Thanks,

Matt

Re: 1989 Spectrum 1706 looking for manual

Welcome aboard Matt. As you probably know, Bluefin/Spectrum was purchased by Brunswick several years ago. In one of the postings in another thread below, I believe there is an address/phone number that you can try. However, when I talked to them, they indicated that very little in the way of documentation came over with the sale.

Is there any particular function that you need to know about? Many folks on this forum are very knowledgable.

I'm not positive on a Spectrum, but on the BlueFin's 17 footer, most had a Max HP of 85. I did see one or two configurations that held a 115 HP max rating.

Whats the worst thing that can happen if I go with a larger motor than what the rating is?

The worst thing that can happen is you could kill yourself or someone else :(

Now let's talk practicality. There are several threads in the forums that discuss the same issue. If you are only talking one or two steps up for example, boat is rated for 85 and you put on a 90 or 100, your boat will probably handle the extra weight and horsepower. That is providing that your transom is solid. However, if you go from a 85 limit to a 150 hp engine, then that is a lot of extra weight and horsepower.

I know that many people will exceed the HP rating on their boat by 10 hp or so. The other kicker is if you are ever involved in an accident then the insurance companies and lawyers could take you to the cleaners.
