GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas -- Here's something you don't see every day: A boat accident at North Texas Regional Airport.

A trailer with a boat came loose from a truck Thursday on Airport Drive. The trailer then went off the road and hit some power lines.

The impact sent the boat flying off the trailer; it landed at a 45 degree angle as the downed lines sparked a small fire.

The impact knocked out electrical service at the airport for several hours.

There were no injuries, and the control tower switched over to a backup generator until power could be restored.

Yes sir. Just goes to show, indifference or ineptitude doesn't only impact the one nearest to the incident.

And technically the driver of a vehicle IS responsible for the security of his trailer load.....if that boat had killed some people there may well have been a law suit....and rightly so!......Sorta like driving impaired...lots of legal exposure there!

Not sure how transom tiedowns are going to keep the trailer from breaking lose from the tow vehicle.

Looking at photo seems boat came loose from trailer which is sitting down there in the grass....speaking of trailers, safety chains are highly recommended and required to keep tow vehicle and trailer together...

So it appears the Hitch failed/or was never closed, the trailer Safety Chains failed/or were not used, the boat was not secured to the trailer/or the loads imposed upon the straps/lines exceeded their capacity. A Transom Tiedown may use a strap rated for 5000 lbs but the little brass rivet used in the overcenter pivot point to secure, may shear at far less.
Luckily there were no injuries at accident scene or by those affected by the power outage
