Re: Pleasant surprise, Had propane tank filled today....

You made me go check my contract.
Yep, 1000 gallons, $1279, minus $34 credit from account, check was $1243.

Last year I paid $1.83

Here are some sample prices from my area.

WI Monroe Sep 4 2012 $1.27
WI Antigo Sep 3 2012 $1.12
WI Medford Sep 27 2012 $1.20

Most of the fuel price websites operate from Oct-March, so not much info out there till next week.

But this one is good for comparison, based on consumer purchases.

These next 2 should start reporting next week.

You guys are scaring me!

I just had a gas line installed from the street to my house, to be followed by an about-to-be-installed Bryant furnace. Replacing an 11 year old oil furnace. The oil unit works fine, but filling my tank is costing me almost $1000 and I need it twice a winter.

I know you're talking about propane, but I'm hoping Nat. Gas doesn't follow it...!

Re: Pleasant surprise, Had propane tank filled today....

After some researching I found this:
“Propane is a byproduct of oil and gas production. Propane prices typically follow crude oil, but today, they’re tracking natural gas. That’s because drilling in shale rock deposits is yielding a “wet” natural gas containing liquids that are refined into propane, butane and other components. By some estimates, more than 60 percent of domestic propane is comming from gas deposits. Natural gas wholesale prices have dropped around 75 percent in the last two years. Therefore, propane costs are expected to to drop.”

My local propane guy told me he lowered his price for the first time in over 40 years.

NG, at least in my area, is predicted for historical lows for at least this year.
