Re: New furnace, How much for installation ???

Ok, forgot to post back with the update.

I did finally hear from the other 2 pros, sorry, too late.

Ordered the furnace and parts from http://www.alpinehomeair.com
a 95% AFUE 2 stage burner unit, and had it at my home 3 days later.

1 hour to rip out the old furnace.

1 trip to the hardware store, $71.
$1215.96 for the furnace and parts.
So $1287 total.

Not counting my instruction reading time, it took me 9.5-10 hours.

Modifying the cold air return took longer than it should have, as did adjusting the gas pressures and checking the temp rise, etc. But I was learning as I went.

I'm guessing the pro could have easily done it in 7 hours, or less.

Does it look perfect? No.

Does it look good and work well? So far. :)

Saved myself $2100.

Way to go! I have considered alpine for my heatpump replacement, were you satisfied with them?

But you have to factor in your time.

You spent more than a whole working-day on the project.
Would you work an entire day for someone else and only expect to get paid a little over $2000- ?

Ummmm, OK, never mind. :D

Yes they were fine.
Only called them the one time, to place the order.

THe dvd, paper, and online instructions/tutorials were good.

I don't know anything about their Alpine branded equipment, but I'm sure it is manufactured by a major player.

My furnace is a Goodman, not the best, not the worst, and they own a HUGE % of the furnace market.

ok, photos to come.

I would definitely find this out sooner than later. When time comes to replace the gas valve, which seems to be a common item to go out on these high efficiency furnaces, you are going to need to know what to buy.

EDIT: I see you have a Goodman.

There is nothing wrong with Goodman. I have had a Goodman heatpump at my lake house for 10 years and I just replaced my 2 ton Lennox in my main house with a Goodman heatpump. Now I need to replace the unit for the main living area and I will use a 4 ton Goodman Heatpump. The only downside of buying online is the warranty. But I am not a big fan of warranties
Most units are warranted for ten years but only if you get service through a authorized dealer. By the time you pay for labor and shipping you could of bought the part and repaired it yourself.
