1998 Chevrolet Malibu Dash lights not working

Good day to all,
I am trying to help my father out that owns a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu 3.1L, V-6 that all of his dash lights are not working. He has checked all of the fuses and wiring and cannot find the issue. What is a common problem on these vehicles concerning the dash lights? Also, is there a free dash light wiring diagram that he can use or down load off the internet that he can use to troubleshoot this problem with? Any help would be Greatly appreciated. Pull the light switch, I bet the reostat (sp??) is shot.
coil thingy on the back of the switch, connector tabs burn or over heat and lift.

Do the tail lights work or are they out also....everything thing else works fine..different troubleshooting.....just dash light wiring or bad dummer er dimmer switch or not set on higher light
