I have the model 80 w/surge brakes. A little confused about the 2 listings of the Tow Dolly GVWR. And, I have a Class 4 6600 gvwr tongue which they dont list. Please enlighten me...

Your Class 4 hitch exceeds the max ratings for either the model 77 and 80, so no need to list.

I don't understand why 2 GVWR numbers. Where did the extra 1250/1400 pounds come from? Could it be the total of the vehicle wt. on the dolly (front wheels) + dolly wt. plus (the top GVWR) plus the towed vehicle rear wheel wt. for the lower GVWR? That would make the lower wt. the towed total rig max weight of 4250/4900 lbs.

The Jeep is about 27-2800 # + the dolly towed weight well below the 4900 GVWR of the model 80 using my logic.

But, I'm thinking about towing my Chevy truck with a curb weight of 5000k...... My wrangler has rearend issues yet. And not sure about the rearend in the XJ Cherokee. Don't want find out 500 miles or further from home.

Got a U Haul around? They should be able to answer the numbers questions.

With the Chevy, about 600 lbs. over. Close.

My take - the first GVWR rating is the amount of actual weight that can be placed on the dolly (front wheels) and towed. The second is the total weight of the vehicle and dolly combined

They won't answer anything. They won't let you dolly tow a truck.....

That's the number I come up with too....

The wording is better at the manufacture, and 5K truck would be no-go. Also call the 800-522-2190

https://www.mastertow.com/towdollies

I've been on that site. GVWR of tow vehicle makes no sense. No passengers, no cargo etc....... Unless I'm reading that wrong.... Even at curb weight I'm 100#s over. In an accident, if push came to shove and they start looking up weights, I suppose it could be an issue...

Maximum Gross Weight of Vehicle to be Towed4,250 lbs.4,900 lbs.

Making the call should answer the question, but my take is the dolly can handle load/braking up to 4900, no more

My take too. Not worried about stopping. I won't even feel it. I doubt it will fold up with the little extra weight.... Idk...

How much does the pusher weigh? It won't notice going up or downhill, even if the truck is passing you on the dolly.

Maybe flat towing would be better to take the P/U until the Jeep rears are fixed.

30k give or take, gross is 33k. I would flat tow, but that's another 3-4k for a good setup.... And, I'm leaving soon....
