Recently our clothes washer started a chattering squeak during the spin/rinse cycles. Not good. Something will eventually fail. Pull the front panel, jack up the front with a short 2x4 and observe.

Agitation cycle, motor runs CCW. Quiet. Rinse/spin, motor CW. Squeaky noise. Three pulleys: Motor, washer transmission, drain pump. Two suspects: Pump or belt. Actually three suspects, but I was avoiding a trans. bearing.

Ordered and installed a new drain pump and belt. Fixed. Root cause - beats me. But the belt was a bit glazed.
