Many comments here basically saying "the free market will figure it out, let's just trust Comcast and all the other ISP monopolies to do right by us even though they're not being compelled to do so." It would be the same as saying that about Standard Oil in 1910. It disregards the fact that competition doesn't exist in a monopolized market.

Also, "everything was fine before the FCC regulations existed in the first place." Most consumers were subject to rampant throttling and objectively awful broadband speeds compared to just about every other developed nation.

These regulations also protected the business environment for a vast number of people and small businesses in the technology sector. Without those protections innovation and web based entrepreneurship will suffer. If it's pay to play for hosting, we'll only have the big players providing services. Mom and pop web shops and those who do the development for small businesses will be forced out of the market.

My main point is that if you give Comcast et al the ability to demand more money for fewer/worse services, they'll do it in a heartbeat. They're really nothing more than a middleman, but they own the lines in most of the US and actively lobby to make it illegal for towns and cities to establish municipal broadband. They've succeeded in doing that in many places even under title II regulation.

I'll take Comcast over gov regs every day...and Comcast is voted the worst compay in the usa. Im Confident capitalism will win over government control in this case. Not every case, but this time.
