Hello all- I am finishing a walk up attic and the portion of the floor (6') that spills into the opening for the stairs needs a railing. I am thinking a 4x4 post railing on each side of the 6' and then cables in between, and maybe a 1/ 1/4 pipe for the top railing. There are kits avail online but big $$$. I want to do this on the cheap- any ideas? Thanks!

If you don't mind the rustic look, what about plumbing parts? Drill some holes and run cables/wires.

I see it working so long as you have a way of getting the cables real tight. So each cable end needs to have something attached to it so it can be tightened.

Direct end with threaded rod
Eye bolt and cable clamps
Turn buckle
