Kind of hard to get them fresh from the soil when in the desert, but picked on Sunday, shipped on Monday and enjoyed on Tuesday beats none at all!!!

Re: Morel Mushrooms 2013

Cottonwood is scarce here. We have a lot of elm and white ash. The local mushroom picking society recommends ash and elm falls locally. We had a big burn two yrs ago and they recommended that area to start. May head over Friday afternoon after I read up and make sure of what to look for and what to look out for too. Thanks for the help!

That's the ticket right there, including poplar. Definitely look for Elm trees slipping their bark and you're surely to find a big mess of shrooms. Old apple orchards can be really good too. Forest that have been timbered in the past 10 years typically yield good results. Oak forest are usually not a good place to look.

Two short attempts without success. Been very dry here. I know where not to look now. Keeping my eyes open.

We had a bad year for fires around here but that makes a great year for morels! This is part of batch 2, heading to the dehydrator after soaking in salt water. We could add 10x that amount but are running out of ideas on how to use them all!

Thanks, Tyme2fish. Just one of those years here. We paid for it last summer with air so thick with smoke from forest fires you couldn't see 1/2 mile. Natures way of payback, I suppose. Off in search of Chanterelles this weekend, which are far and away my favorite. I'll post pics if we get lucky.
