I picked up a 13 EB last fall. There was a hot smell anytime I ran the fan. Started looking on line and found the plug for the blower resistor has a problem with melting.

There is a kit that has a new resister and plug with better (smaller gauge) wire. It was an easy and inexpensive fix.

Your repair will be a little harder.:blue:

That resistor plug would be my guess as to the cause of your fire.

I might still have a pic of the bad plug, will post it if I can find it. I gave the plug to a fellow robotics mentor, he is an EE and a Senior Electrical Project Manager for a Major tier 1 auto supplier. He could not believe how badly damaged the plug was.

Fords have a recent history of electrical issues and fires. much like GM, the cars are primarily sourced from foreign soil, so the only thing that Ford makes is the trucks.

just a few that I am aware of.

back in 03, the fuse panel that goes thru the firewall would short out and cause fires. that was recalled.
when the Tire 3 diesels came out, the system would go into regen while sitting in traffic and the exhaust would get so hot it caused interior fires.
the block immersion heaters would cause fires on a bunch of the 2015-2016's
Ford recalled the 2015-2019 full-size for exhaust systems that would cause fires.
there is the recall on the fan motor (above) in fact there is an active recall adding 2019's rangers right now for the same thing (they upgraded the F150's, the forgot about the rangers)

Also Fords had an issue with cruise control that burned up parked vehicles and the garages they were parked in.

Go to NTSB and do a search by VIN to see if the truck has any outstanding recalls.

It was a Ford ... 'nuff said ...

I've had many trucks, vans and SUV's and have driven over 2 million miles. They all have issues, it is just a matter of how bad. The older vehicles were easier to fix and maintain at home. The newer ones have too many electronic control devices to keep up with in my opinion.

I bought a 2013 F150 to get more towing capacity. Have had Suburban's for about 10 years. Unless you get to the 2500's you can't pull 8,000lbs safely with the 1500's. Don't really want a 3/4 ton for everyday driving.

My F150 has been good so far but time will tell.

Let me guess you are one of those guys that has the sticker with Calvin peeing on the ford logo?

Nope... Don't like those stickers ... Just been a GM man all my life. Grandfather was a GM dealer, father was a GM dealer. We sold the dealership when a gentleman made us an offer we couldn't refuse. I have never owned anything but a GM except for the '78 Jeep Scrambler with the GM 151 Iron Duke and an '03 Ford Focus that my daughter drove for 2 weeks before totaling it when she didn't see the car in front turning in the fog. Just a better comfort level with a GM product, but as time passes, sometimes even they are loosing their luster.

Cars and trucks are all about what you like and your comfort level.

I've had Fords and Chevys, no lemons, all makes have some glitches, a buddy was over last pm and did mention the blower resistor issue, ins co called me today and I think I'll have to email pics to an adjuster, because of corona virus etc, doesnt look like anything under hood got damaged, just psgr side/under dash and fan, so I should know if theyll replace or fix, hoping for fix, I really like this truck only 94K, one owner great maintenance.

Plastic is fuel. I lost a Jeep GC because most everything under the hood is plastic. Before plastic took over fires under the hood just resulted in a burnt spot on the hood and minor repairs to get going again.
