It's Global Palindrome day! It's Super Bowl Sunday! It's Groundhog Day!

Today is 02/02/2020, a palindromic date or a date reading the same forward and backwards. The last was 909 years ago on 11/11/1111. We won't have to that long until the next on 12/12/2121.

Also today is the 33rd day of the year with 333 days to go in 2020. According to those who stamp "Best By" dates on our food, it will never happen again on Palindrome Day.

Many important events occurred on February 2nd. For a complete list take a look here - https://www.onthisday.com/today/events.php

For boaters in 1887 the first Groundhog Day was observed with Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow and predicting a long winter.

Today up at Gobblers Knob in Punxsutawney, PA, Phil didn't see his shadow, so a shorter winter. Down here in Lilburn, Georgia, General Beauregard Lee did see his shadow, so the Southland will have a longer winter.

Phil has many imitators, not just the General.
Chattanooga Chuck is not forecasting today due to his untimely demise in November. :rip:

LucyLobster in Nova Scotia says more winter.

Groundhog Jimmy saw his shadow for a long winter in Sun Prairie, WI, the self-proclaimed “Groundhog Capital of the World.” This title was taken after a 1952 Punxsutawney newspaper article describing Sun Prairie as a “remote two cow village buried somewhere in the wilderness…” During festivities in 2015, Jimmy bit the ear of Sun Prairie's mayor - No charges were filed.

And many, many more.

Enjoy your day and remember - NOAA concluded groundhogs show "no predictive skill." :D

I edited after posting and wonderful VB takes a while to show edits for some reason. I tried again.

I should have said Global Palindrome Day. I'll fix it. International date formats are DD/MM/YYYY, while the US is MM/DD/YYYY, so today is palindromic everywhere which explains the rarity.
