Cup and Trucks are Paperclip racing this weekend at Martinsville. This is one of the compressed race schedules with Truck and Cup track activity limited to 2 days each. Trucks practice today, qualify and race tomorrow, then Cup practices and qualifies tomorrow for the race on Sunday. X-Men have the weekend off so The Twerp can't 3-peat.

Weather looks to be decent through Sunday for the 36 teams on the Cup entry list. From MRN, the schedule showing this is back to FS1 for TV.

News and Notes
  • This is an impound race and the cars will be locked after Saturday qualifying. Inspection will be Sunday morning and if a car fails, qualifying times are lost and will start at the back.
  • Being a short track, the full-power set up is in play - 750HP, big spoiler and aero ducts. What does this mean? It's tricky Martinsville and we might see more crunched metal than earlier races this year.
  • Will qualifying be goofy as it was last week?
  • Jeff Gluck has been conducting an informal poll on Twitter for the last 119 races. Fontana was ranked as the lowest of the last 4 Fontana races and #107 of 119 races. Only 37% thought it was a good race.
  • TV ratings - It's getting harder to find TV ratings. All I can find is a thing from FOX saying the viewership increased for the 3rd consecutive week.

iBoats Fantasy Live
  • Our Fontana winner, a 1st timer this year, is justkiddin 5. Congrats on creaming us with a 41 point victory. :first:
  • justkiddin 5 jumped to the top of the leaderboard with a 1 point lead,
  • Five races under our belt and 5 different winners. Have we achieved parity?
  • The pole locks at 5:05 Saturday and the race roster locks at 1:55 Sunday.
  • Keep an eye on inspection results Sunday morning.

Good luck,

Humpty

If a car had 750 HP. it would come in last. Our Toyota last year made 925 on the dyno, and the Ford's made another 12.

750 is what all the talking heads say this years package makes with the spacer plates. Speeds are down, so there might be something to it. Anyway what ever it is, all the cars are close to the same power.

The 1st round of qualifying had Bowyer fastest , followed by Suarez, Almirola, Truex and The Twerp as the top 5. 2nd practice at 12:30 before the Truck rack and qualifying afterwards at 5PM. Pole locks at 5:05.

LaJoie and Byron had issues during the practice. LaJoie lost is brakes and brakes are important at Martinsville - He wrecked and is going to his back up. Byron hit the wall and the team is trying to fix it, so no backup car for the time being.

Qualifying pole locks at 5:05 after the Truck race.

BTW - The MRN schedule above shows the Truck race on FS1. It will be on Fox for your viewing pleasure.

Well I started watch the Truck race and as soon as The Twerp took the lead, I went and changed oil in two cars and flushed and refilled the coolant in the Jeep. I enjoyed that better than watching The Twerp win again. :D

Cup qualifying - Joey take the pole with Almirola starting beside him. Rest of the top 12 are Keso, Harvick, Hamlin, Byron Larson, Elliott, Truex, Suarez, Bowyer and Johnson.

The race locks at 2:02 PM (????). Post qualifying or pre-race inspection starts at 8 AM. Keep an eye on that. A few drivers were caught and had to start at the back last year. Sio the starting spots are provisional and the cars are impounded until inspection.

Inspection has been going on since 8 AM. Three cars flunked the first pass - Byron, Kennington and Burton. Cody Ware has gone to a backup, so these 4 will start at the back. Byron Q'ed in the 6th spot.

Still waiting for the official line up at the end of inspection. I think it's winding up. Since Joey passed the 1st time, he is the pole sitter. If you picked him for the pole, you got the 5 bonus points.

In any case, 2:02 is your roster lock time.

Ty Dillon caught speeding on pit road. The speed limit is only 30 with a 5 MPH limit, so he was over 35.

Elliott has been in 2nd for most of the day. He faded some to 4th at the end of the heat, but picked up 2 spots in the pits to restart 2nd. At times he has been pressuring Keso for the lead. Blaney was up there at the end of the heat as well.

Maybe Elliott or Blaney can keep the heat on Keso?
