Too political. Everyone know that efi is more efficient.

I didn't know they weren't great anymore. I'll keep my fuel injection in the car and truck. A carb I can still look at and know what I am looking at.

Scott—

Forgetting about all the fuel that isn’t burned in a two cycle engine.

And all the human energy that is used paddling back to the launch because the art of tuning a carved engine is rapidly disappearing.

Carbs, injection... antique technology. :p

Here's the future. And it'll happen in 10 years or less.

I'm skeptical. Oh, it's coming for sure, but not for a while. Once batteries are developed for autos that provide the range and fill up (charge) time comparable with a gas pump, then we can see what is available for pleasure craft. Single hull boats consume a lot of energy. Mucho kWh. Boat design will change, and likely result in more putsy slow rides. Good bye, twin big blocks. Hello more 'toons, sails and short range rafting tie ups.

2-strokes burn 0.5# of fuel per HP per hr.... agreed, the knowledge of taking a die grinder and extracting horsepower is now in the hands of a few.

they already have electric launches. however they are limited on distance, require constant re-charges and battery life expectancy is only a few years. just like electric cars are limited on use.... so is the electric boat.

Yep, electric is here alrerady, elco and torqeedo to name a few. Elco even has a 100hp inboard with a 35 NM range. Who wants to be the first to test out the range on this forum?

If electric vehicles/boats are sooo great, WHY have the advanced so little in the last century? Electric cars were very popular in the early 1900's, but are still just toys. Electric boats? Doesn't the water affect the extension cords???

Agreed that electric cars are coming in significant numbers, especially in the last 2-3 years
including high-end sportscars

In addition to BWR's list, these are the ones that I know of off the top of my head

Audi E-tron sportback sedan (car version of the E-tron Q6)
Jaquar XJ
Mini E
Tesla models S, 2 and 3
Volvo XC 40
Nissan IDS and leaf
Porsche Mission E
Mercedes generation EQ
Austin Martin Rapid E

then there are the hybrids
BMW i3
Ferarri LaFerarri
McClaren P1
Fisker Karma
Lexus LC ES & GS
Chevy Volt
GMC Sierra and Suburban
Ford C-max, Focus hybrid, Fusion hybrid
Infinity Q50h
Acura RLX and NSX
Honda Accord, Civic, CRz,
Porsche 918, Cayenne E-hybrid S and Panamera E-hybrid
Mercedes GLE 550-e
Toyota Prius, Camary hybrid, Avalon Hybrid,
Nissan Leaf
Volvo XC90 and S90 Inscription

as far as boats go here are some electric conversions done right here on iBoats

http://forums.iboats.com/forum/gener...o-all-electric

http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...electric-power

range still isnt there for my needs as at a minimum I hit 60 miles each outing with many outings hitting 120miles

Yep, got FI in cars, they work great. Glad there's a carb on the old/new 350 in the boat - an engine that I can still work on.

Electric-powered vehicles have advanced well. But what about making, hauling, and disposing batteries and all the stuff needed to have them work in a vehicle? - let's not forget about those parts of "the equation".
