Cup and X-Men return to Bristol for the first time this year. There may be an X-Race on Saturday and a Cup Race on Sunday or they may be delayed. Probably a better chance of the X-er's getting their race in with an afternoon start. If the forecast holds, Sunday racing may be soggy, if not hanging on until Monday with much less rain. Remember I am not certified by the AMS, NOAA, FCC, CIA, FAA, FBI or the Weather Channel. I only lick my finger and hold it in the wind!

News and Notes
  • The latest team to be unhappy with the air wrenches is the team of Unhappy Harvick. He's still mad about poor pit stops and blaming the air guns supplied by Nascar. He also avoided an uncontrolled tire during a stop when Nascar missed it. Call him Mr. Lucky.
  • Penalties at Texas - Chase Elliott's #9 got almost the same penalty as the Harvick team a few weeks ago for the same type of unapproved rear window support. Elliott lost 20 points, 20 Owner points and Crew Chief got a $50K fine. The difference is Elliott loses his CC for 2 races while Harvick lost his Car Chief. Wonder why in one case it was Car Chief and the other was the Crew Chief? Harvick also had the aluminum rocker panel extensions, so it would seem the #4 would have more serious penalties.
  • The End Is Near 1 - The All-Star race will have 4, count 'em, four stages of 30 laps, 20 laps, 20 laps and 10 laps. What are they doing?
  • The End Is Near II - Restrictor plates, big spoilers with 12" ears, cooling ducts and 2014 style splitters for the All-Star race. This is what the X-Men raced at Indy last year. Details on MRN - https://www.mrn.com/2018/04/11/star-race-format-rules-announced/
  • Monster has extended Cup sponsorship for, hold on to your hat, one whole year through 2019. Nascar is the only major motorsport that I know of with year-to-year sponsoring. When will Nascar realize they are killing themselves?
  • TV ratings - Related to the sponsor issues, Texas on FS1 managed a 1.7 rating and 2.82 million viewers, both more that 1/3 down. Last year was 2.7/4.5M viewers and 2016 was about the same, 2.7/4.3M viewers. The difference? FS1 this year and Fox the prior years.

iBoats Fantasy Live
  • Texas was won by the longest roster name ever - STICKMARCHFISHINGGUIDE.COM. He had a 4 point advantage over justkiddin 5 and earns his 🏆 Congrats, Sticky.
  • FlaCowboy is on top of the overall points by 39 over Trackchick Stars.
  • Pole picks lock on Friday the 13th at 4:40 PM ET.

Cup practice is over and next for Cup is qualifying at 4:45. Pole picks are due by 4:40. The top 10 in practice are Blaney, Jones, Busch41, The Twerp, Larson, Hamlin, Bowman, Keso, Ragan and Truex. Blaney and Jones had the same time to tie for the fastest lap.

Unhappy Harvick nailed the wall hard and is going to his backup and will start the race at the tail end.

Hey Nascar - This sounds like a good idea. https://www.yahoo.com/news/f1-races-espn-commercial-free-181200892.html

Something nice about the X-Race this week - No BuschWhackers because it's a Dash 4 Cash race. :D

Ryan Preese finished in the top 4 last week, but Nascar says he isn't eligible for the Richmond Dash Cash because he hasn't entered the Richmond race, the 2nd Dash race and it's too late to enter and even a late entry would leave him out. I guess he is still up for the cash this week at Bristol.

And the Bristol Stomp pole winner is The Twerp. Second - twelve is Busch41, Keso, Stenhouse, Blaney, Larson, Menard, Bowman, McDowell, Logano, Byron and Suarez.

1:55PM ET is the cutoff for picks for Sunday's (or Monday's) race.

This concludes today's broadcasting activities.

One of the reasons this occasional fan misses the 1st few races of the season. I don't know if it's the top Nascar teams or a lower tier race series like the Canadian Tire series here.

Couple of updates;

Kurt Busch mangled his car during the final practice this morning. Looks like he's going to his backup, along with Harvick who wrecked his primary yesterday and didn't try to qualify. Bristol is a hard track to move up from the back.

Start time has been moved ahead by an hour to 1PM because of rain concerns.. iFL lock time is now 12:55PM tomorrow. Set your alarms.

X-Men wave off in about 30 minutes, at 1PM.

Preese won the X-Race and also got the Dash 4 Cash100 grand. Allgaier, Hemric and Sadler followed. Then Hemric flunked post-race inspection, so Jone gets to go for the neat Dash Cash along with Allgaier, Sadler and Gallagher at Richmond. Preese isn't entered in the Richmond race. I bet he and the crew regret no running all the races.

Remember the Cup race is starting at 1PM. As long as the 1.29 inches of rain starting at 9AM and through the night don't mess things up. Monday doesn't look real good either.

Good write up as usual GA...:thumb:

As for the sponsors...I think that Winston should come back to sponsor nascar. Let`s take all of that computer programming out of the cars, put carbs back on them engines and let`s get back to STOCK cars.

Congrats on the win last week Sticks...:thumb:

We have lights at Bristol...maybe we can get this race done today...:bump2:

They are gonna try - Engines fired.

And the storms last night took out my local Fox channel. Gotta use Jayski's Twitter, and MRN and Nascar Leaderboard.

Ooops - Make that PRN if I can find a local broadcast.

Got a Semi-Big One! Took 3 laps. 3 wide and McDowell and Suarez make contact, collected Truex and Elliott.

Blaney squirted around The Twerp for the lead.

2nd yellow for The Dinger. He was in the first wreck. About lap 8 or 9.

PRN is saying the race started before the pit crews were set up.

McDowell to the garage. Bowman having tranny trouble - No 4th gear.

Sprinkles! Lap 26.

Had to pull The Twerp out of the garage, then he started having sticking trouble as in he has no traction.

Lap 47 - Rain caution, probably going red in a minute. Lap 50 was the new competition caution after the early wrecks.

Back to green after a quick  LOL

During pit stops - Bowman had uncontrolled tire, Truex had too many over the wall, Newman too fast and Elliott held a lap for working on the car during red.

Then a quick yellow after the restart for Stenhouse spinning.

Blaney is still the leader under green...........for now.

During the race for the lead, with Keso closing fast on Blaney on lap 118, Blaney runs into a spinner in front of him. Rhodes and McMurray were trying to stay on the lead lap while fighting for position, they lost it and Blaney ran into them and is done for the day. Bayne and Buescher also involved

Back to red for cleanup.
