well if it involve hiking i'll have to start getting into shape. I/ve been putting my new bike together and i'm sweating in a 64 degree house. I am waaaaaaay out of shape.

Looked over the canada train and man that gets pricey if you want your own room. i usually try to spoil the wife buut that seems a bit much.

It's Canada eh! Everything is pricy. You don't get "free" Health Care for nothing. Most of every consumer good and service we pay here is taxes but Free Healthcare. Plus I thought you were wealthy based on where you guys have been. Don't forget your US dollar 35% discount.

i'd be alot more rich if i quit playing with boats... Much of my travels were business related and for the personal stuff i squeek when i walk into airports if not using reward points. Heck i even pack up single shot bottles of vodka to mix in the free stuff. Against the rules but haven't been caught yet. I even refill the little ones instead of buying new. comes out to about 15 cents per shot instead of 99 cents to buy new versus 5-8 bucks on the plane.

Ours is next month. 53 years of happiness. We are hitting a mystery theater and the night at a nice Hotel. Sleep in and drive back. Going in the middle of the week to avoid the rush.

Our 18th is towards the end of next month ... before we are going to head to Williamsburg, VA to celebrate friends 50th. Then for our anniversary it will be “work” in the AM and then dinner and a Newsboys United Concert the wife really wants to attend in the evening.

The Turks and Caicos is a great choice. Some of the best beaches and Gin clear waters in the World, bar none. And a boaters paradise.

If you are looking for a nice spring destination close to home I would choose Quebec City. As close to Europe and it's romantic allure, fake or real, you can get without crossing an ocean and dealing with rude Euro trash. It can get touristy in summer but not so much in spring. The other place is Victoria BC on Vancouver Island. Especially if you are boaters. You can rent a good size boat and explore the island via the water or take one of many charters. It is gorgeous, wake to snow capped mountains in summer. For me spring is best in B.C. Yes it rains, every afternoon but for an hour, great time to take a snooze. Americans are more than welcome here in Canada, with open arms.

edit: If you guys are into flora and fauna you have to go to Victoria, one of the Worlds best Botanical Gardens. On the other end of the island is Comox/Qualcom Beach, just amazing. We've been a few times.

I was looking at TC last night; did you go during summer? One large complaint of my wife's is that anytime we have done tropical trips the beach has been small rocky, etc. She wants loooooong beaches. We'll be going in August and besides being in hurricane season it states on the official website pretty dam hot but I looked it up and average is only 89. I figure with wind (not hurricanes) and water we should be fine. Was thinking a villa, not a hotel on Salt Cay or north and middle Caicos. Salt Cay is a small plane charter 'only' $400 round trip that would be cool. They got hit by two hurricanes last year so I'm thinking odds are good this year they get passed over. Had a buddy on my forum that has wandered off due to life but he was there many years. Here's the blog he used to keep., Nothing in almost two years. http://2gringos.blogspot.com/ Never met him either, seemed like a great guy.

Then spent much time looking at Canada. The trains in the main corridors ain't to cheap and not much info about how comfy they are for a 1-3 day trip. Got a buddy on my forum that lives up in Nova Scotia. Never met him but known him over a decade. Keeps his boat on the Bay of Fundy. I watch his marinas webcam. Amazing. Thought maybe fly into Toronto and train a day somewhere, send the night and a day and train back to Toronto hope he'd trip over to visit us - getting to him is too far for a week vacation..

As far as Victoria - yeah not been there but folks live in the straights I sit on the beach and watch the Victoria Clipper run by. That is our usual spot for our aniversary, and may be again, but looking sor something different.

Well, one would think that after ten years I would learn that when she says 'it's our ten year I want to do something different ' I'm supposed to hear 'let's do the same thing we always do'.

Plus the boy is there now on the Nimitz so mamma needs to see the boy...

Thanks for the ideas, theres always year eleven. Hopefully....

Sorry I didn't get back to you Joe. My notifications all 24 of them are buried in the top corner of the screen.

Turks and Caicos is too hot for me in the summer. Pittsburg's too hot for me in the summer. The beaches are powder white sand for miles.

As far as trains here, nothing is cheap. Don't forget to discount your dollar by 35%, that's a huge discount. An hour or 2 from Toronto by train won't let you see anything. It won't get you to the east end of Lake Ontario. Nova Scotia is another 20 hours by car from Toronto if I recall. Nova Scotia, wow I didn't mention that. I can not recommend a nicer place and great weather in the summer. Fly to Halifax and rent a car. Go in any direction and you will find the Atlantic, small fishing villages, harbours, inlets, islands and above all fantastic food. I don't know where you are in the States. I have driven from Toronto area to Bar Harbor Maine and then taken the ferry across to the southern tip of Nova Scotia. Take a look at Cape Breton which is the NE corner of NS. Tell me that isn't beautiful. Food and rooms are cheap there in the countryside compared to all the other places here, like TO and Montreal. Ya have to try the down homer Cod Cheeks der Brudder me boy. We are going to Mahon Bay this summer for my sis in laws wedding. Oak Island is in Mahon Bay. Halifax is a small city with country charm, and a Casino to boot. I told her if I don't make this wedding I'll come to her next one. We will be there mid August, I'll buy you guys a Lobster Roll and a Keith's to wash er down.

You will be surprised how age can change your lifestyle. Being Seniors; we do not have to rush at the faster pace as most..
We did this 3 years ago_One of my best friends works at a major Hotel in Houston. He keeps a room available. (Single; has season tickets to the local Sports games;etc,). The plan is simple: check in around 4; limo to the theater district around 7; dinner; then return..Wake up whenever; free breakfast brunch ; then return home around 11..
When we went ;she guessed right; dinner was free!
Believe me me; we are NOT high rollers; just enjoying life.

I'm sorry Joe you said take a train for a day from Toronto, you still won't see anything until you get to Montreal and I would never suggest going there, they don't even want Canadians in Montreal let alone Americans.
