No more Nascar racing at Phoenix, now named ISM Raceway after Ingenuity Sun Media (ISM Connect) paid PIR for the honors. It was also renamed Jeff Gordon Raceway for his final race at the track.

The schedule features X-Men and Cup racing while Trucks are idle in the garage this week. From MRN, the schedule;

Once again a short field, only 37 teams for the 40 spots. Weather is dry as a bone for the foreseeable future. Dry Bones? FlaCowboy take heed. :lol:

News and Notes
  • Harvick escapes the ax! After drivers and fans noticed his rear window was changing shape and a tear-apart at the R&D center following the Vegas race, an out of spec brace was found. The brace broke during the race (clears throat) allowing the window to bow, creating an unfair aero advantage. That was bad, but a rocker panel extension was also illegal, made of aluminum instead the approved Nascarium. Two violations and what does the team get? Hold out your hand for a ruler! Harvick lost his 7 bonus points, big deal - The Atlanta win puts him in the playoffs, so the 20 driver point deduct is also meaningless. 20 Owner points were taken away and the Crew Chief got a $50K fine and the Car Chief was suspended for the next 2 races. But the win stands in record books and Harvick still gets to stuff the big check into an ATM. On the upside, his win wasn't stripped giving The Twerp the win.
  • Other penalties - Joey Gase had a loose lugnut for a fine and both X-Men and Trucks had no post-race inspection issues.
  • Dale Jr. returns - Sort of. He begins his post-racing career with NBC by joining former crew chief Steve Letarte on NBCSN's Nascar America broadcast on Monday. Dale was in South Korea taking part in NBC's Olympic coverage. I wanted him to make a bobsled run, but alas, it didn't happen.
  • Jeff Gordon has been nominated for the Hall of Fame, along with Harry Gant, Kirk Shelmerdine. Also John Holman and Ralph Moody of Ford motor mastery as Holman & Moody, are nominated.
  • Race attendance has fallen for the 10th straight year. How many seats can be removed to to give the appearance of full stands?
  • TV ratings - Good thing the Olympics are over. A 2.9 rating and 4.7 million viewers on FOX, down 19% in ratings and 21% less viewers from last year (3.6, 6.0M) and down 34% and 35% respectively from 2016 (4.4, 7.2M). It beat #2 Golf.

iBoats Fantasy Live
  • After 3 races, iFL is still looking for a repeat winner. RFG Racing 1 is our latest winner. Congrats, RFG. 🏆
  • FlaCowboy with bones aflying is still holding a 20 point lead over 64osby in the overall standings
  • Practice is underway as this is written and qualifying is at 5:15 PM EST. We have until 5:10 PM to make a Pole Pick. Those 5 bonus picks can be important if you can pick the pole sitter.
Good luck;

The only Cup practice before qualifying is over and Larson, McMurray, KyBusch, Byron, Elliott, Logano, Hamlin, Blaney, Bowyer, Truex, Jr were the fastest.

Harvick isn't happy anymore and has issues with the inspection process saying the car passed all the laser inspections and rules.

Anyone remember a few years ago when Knaus told Johnson to do a burnout with the front of the car against the wall? Something was funky with the splitter and it got destroyed.

And how about all those pit stops that would leave the pits with the pulled out rocker in front of the rear wheel opening to increase down force. Those car cars passed pre-race inspection too!

Sorry, Happy. Your car had a designed in failure point and got caught. I can't believe I'm agreeing with Nascar. :facepalm:

Less than 30 minutes before Q-ing begins and Harvick has failed inspection once. So has Truex.

Pick your pole sitter by 5:10.

Like Mercedes has two stadiums. Well, one is a stadium and the other is a dome.

What I do not understand is the remodel they are about to do to the Raceway. Nascar can`t even field a 40 car race there...:confused:

$178M for 3 races doesn't seem like a good way to spend dough. But it is other peoples money, so.....................

So far Larson has lead all laps with a scheduled yellow going at lap 35, 10 to go.

Not so fast - LaJoie blows a motor.

2nd real caution for a spin by Larson. I was thinking of moving him out of the garage. Stopped thinking and hit the remote to close the door. LOL

Buescher hit the wall for a yellow.

Busch41 takes Heat #2.

Just like last week, Windows #4 over The Twerp. Elliott 3rd, Hamlin 4th and Truex 5th.

If it holds up, Fla Cowboy is our IFL winner. We be checking lugnuts and rear windows. LOL

iFL has the first 2 race winner this year. FlaCowboy dispensed bones at the right times and right places to win. If he keeps this up, we're taking his bones away! Congrats, Cowboy. 🏆

Cowboy is still the overall leader, but Trackchick Stars has squeezed past 64osby for 2nd place. Watch out for bones, TCS!

This week racing is at Fontana for Cup and X-Men. Trucks are off until next week at Texas.
