Trying to figure out the total weight of a boat and trailer that I'm looking at buying. I know that the gross weight of the boat is 3,900 lbs but I', not sure about the weight of the trailer. It is a double axle trailer with surge brakes. My guess is that it the trailer must weight approx 500 lbs. Does this sound about right for the weight of the trailer? Your assistance on the trailer weight would be appreciated.

Re: Trailer Weight

Probably more than that, go to a couple of trailer sites, like Loadrite, they give weights of their trailers. www.loadrite.com
I think a single for a 19' weighs about 575, so a tandem will be closer to or over 700.

That sounds Light for a tandem trailer.....

Just the Axles,+ Springs weigh about 1/2 of that......

I'd think 1000lbs would be Closer........

My tandem axle Venture trailer is about 1200 lb.

The only way to really tell is to have the combination weighed. You can do this at a public scale. truck scale, recycling center, junk yard, etc.

Re: Trailer Weight

The big question is what is the trailer made out of ? If it is steel it will be quite a bit heavier than aluminum. Also, does it have torsion axles or leaf-spring suspension ? I have a triple axle aluminum 34 foot trailer with torsion axles that weighs 900 lbs, it is rated at 10,500 gvw. I also have a 36 foot steel triple axle with leaf springs that weighs 2000 lbs, that will carry 18,000 lbs.
