Re: What do you pull your boat with?

2006 4.8L Silverado / 3:42diff
-Flowmaster dual exhaust
-Hypertech power programmer

1982 Calglass 19' / 1989 Force 125hp

I took the family camping with this setup 2 weeks ago. I filled the boat up with all kinds of gear, and loaded the truck box with full tote bins as well. I could feel the load, but it pulled along most of the trip at 60mph with no issues at all.

I hauled 3 hours north, ran around all week-end, used about 1/2 tank of fuel.

I'll be using this once I get finished with my boat project and put the box on a 97 powerstroke I just got. Its a little different but works out great for camping.

We pull our Cobia 198ES bowrider (about 3100lbs boat/motor/trailer) with a 2004 Honda Pilot. Trailer has a tie-down disc brake system.

I really wonder if I'm "king of the overkill" for pulling a 18' Starcraft SS (right around 2000 lbs) with a 2001 2500HD Duramax/Allison.

I need it for my 28' Travel trailer though.

I pull my 19' CC with a 2008 Ford F150 Super Crew.
WHAT A JOKE! I should have bought a USED 250 with 100,000 miles on it for half the price and I would probably have a better truck. At least I'm covered for 100,000 miles.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

18 foot Four Winns Freedom pulled by a half ton 1990 Chevy Suburban ... 4x4 with MANUAL transmission.

Thanks to the suggestions from iboats' members, this truck has been my tow vehicle. I had a choice as to which truck would work best, and the members here chose the 'burb.

Many folks dislike manual trannies, but once you get the hang of them, they work really well.

My friends and I went to a small lake yesterday with a "soft" unimproved gravel/sand ramp that was very steep to the water, but very shallow once the trailer got wet. My buddy that drives "sticks" drove the truck while I recovered the boat. Locked the hubs and slipped her into 4 LO. Recovered the boat, and with the manual's 1st gear being the older "granny gear", he was able to let out the clutch and get going without any slipping or digging into the soft ramp. Once the truck started going "nose up" on the steep part, a little gas was all that was needed to get up the ramp. My buddy was quite impressed the truck performed perfect on that surface.

I've always been a fan of manual trannies in trucks, so I am biased...

While it's not towing the boat in this photo, I thought I'd share what our vehicle does while it's "off duty" :D The Tribby in the photo is an '04, but we've since updated to an '08.

We were actually just trying to get to our cottage because some beavers dammed the nearby creek. If I could do it more often, I would!

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

The good news is that I recently got a 2008 Ford Expedition EL Limited to pull the boat. The bad news is that I don't have the boat yet. I seem to have it limited down to Chaparral Sunesta 264, Chaparral 256 SSX or Monterey 254 FSX. Given these boats are in the 5300 lb range and the truck is rated to pull 10,000 lbs., I am not expecting any problems.

I pull my 19.5' bowrider with my 06' Jeep Liberty CRD (diesel)

Pulls it like a champ.

However, I don't have brakes on my trailer, and stopping can be a bit... well.. uneasy

My jeep has 4 wheel disc brakes, and my trailer from the factory did have hydrolic brakes, but the previous owner never maintained them.
