Depending on how many people are going, I use this:

98 GMC Envoy. Can't believe how well this little truck tows my boat. I bought it for $3500 and it only has 90K on it. Does have a salvage title, but who cares, I just wanted the boat and needed something to pull it. Keep looking for something to replace it with, but haven't found anythhing I really want for a reasonable price yet.

I have a 2010 4wd EXL RES Pilot. Tows my boat just fine. Gets 12.5 towing with the pilot fully loaded and with the Thule Atlantis 1600XT Roof Carrier on. With nothing in tow I get about 18-19 MPG.

I have it all, from an old 4 cylinder Peugeot that can pull the 15' lito to the extended cab long bed Duramax that will pull anything you put behind it and a few things you cant, idealy I'd have a midsize pickup or SUV with a 3L turbo diesel, but not in this country!

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I had an identical truck for years, but with 4.10s, only replaced it because it was cheaper to have a $400 a month payment and 14mpg than 5mpg of the loaded 460 around town, best ever was 12mpg unloaded and driving slow.

1997 F350 4x4, 460, 5spd manual granny tranny, 3:55 ratio. My boat is a 1993 Trophy 2003CC 20' center console on a steel trailer. Not sure how much it weighs. The truck is no new diesel, but it'll move anything from a dead stop and pulls hardest from 1800-2500rpm; rarely shift close to or over 3000. I notice it a little bit, but then again I expect everything to feel like a rocketship. Why it has 3:55's I have no idea; every truck of this nature...especially gassers should have a 4:10 in my opinion. According to the manual, towing capacity for that truck is 6,900 pounds....underrated ya think??

We tow our 21ft Tahoe Q7 with an 06 Trailblazer EXT LT with a 5.3 and 3.73 gears. It has a 7300lb towing capacity. I have a 74 CJ5 with a 304 V8, and have towed the boat around the block, but I dont see myself towing my boat very far with the CJ. Not that it cant pull it, or cant stop, but it sure has a short wheelbase. I mean really short. With lockers it jerks all over the road when I shift it, without towing anything. I would be a bit scared to tow with it very far.

Towing a 16' fiberglass Bass Boat (the thing is super light but has a nice 115hp outboard in it; she screams!) with a 2006 Explorer v8 4x4 (6spd auto). Towing capacity on my model is 7400lbs. It's a bit overkill, but the good news is I don't really take much of a mpg hit when towing :)

318 5 speed dodge. Not the quickest thing on the planet, especially loaded, but it hasn't failed me yet.

I have the front driveshaft removed so I can use 4L to get the boats out of the water/into tight spaces without ruining the clutch, binding axles, or smoking tires. ;)

I'll get me a diesel someday. :D

I pull my 2006 Tahoe Q6 SF with a 1996 GMC Sierra with 213,000 miles on it. Bought the truck new. I have had it for so long the truck is like family now. lol Dont really want to get rid of it but I think its time for a Duramax.

2004 Ford STX 4x4 v6... I stay outta overdrive on the five speed standard.. Boat is a 17ft Four Winns.. It seems to do the job okay.. You don't want to go on very rough road that's for sure.. I figure the 4 wheel drive will help on ramps.
