Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I pull a little Bayliner Jazz with my 2000 Ford Explorer V6 XLT. I have been towing right from the bumper for about a year and dont even notice it back there.

I pull my 17' ski boat/merc 115 with my 01 stang. V6 with a few mods, manual tranny and sport springs. 18" wheels with summer tires. I use a hidden hitch. No problems so far! I live about 8 miles from the lake so I don't have to travel far, although I did pick the boat up 100 miles away. Smooth as silk on the highway.

2006 2500 Silverado with Duramax diesel. It pulls 10,000lbs like a dream, Any of the big-3 diesels are the only way to go!:)

I disagree. I wouldn't want a diesel unless I was towing alot of weight, oftenly.
Even if I had a very heavy boat, I would still go gas unless I was towing it all the time. The overall cost to own a diesel is not worth it, and gas engines these days are good for at least 200,000 miles.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I tow with a 2005 wrangler unlimited.

pulls great and doesnt slip down the ramp when unloading. low range pulls it out w/o a problem.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I have two trucks that i use to tow with.
my boat is a old starcraft 18' + ft
1997 chev crew cab long box 454 4x4 it pulls what ever I hook to it
in overdrive all day even in the mountains. it gets about 15mpg with or without
a load tied to it.
the other is
2007 gmc canyon crew 4x4 with the 3.7 inline 5.
it works well and has good grunt, forget overdrive when pulling, as a result it seems to eat fuel pulling:( lucky to get 15mpg.
but its much better with no load at 22 to 25 mpg.

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

I use a 96 Ford Superduty dually with a 7.3 powerstroke. I tow my 5th wheel camper and boat at the same time on occasion and generally dont have any problems other than keeping up with all the trailer lights and making sure they are all working properly! The whole thing comes out to 61 feet with both the camper and boat hooked up! I wont lie to you you do have to be very selective on where you pull in for fuel or food stops but overall its not bad! Am taking just my girlfriend and myself with no kids!!! to Navajo Res on the 16th of this month and will be pulling over some mountain passes on the way so it ought to be interesting to say the least! I do pull the ladder rack and ladders BTW before hitching the 5th wheel! LOL

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

We have a Tahoe Q7 boat that measures about 21.5ft, give or take. The first tow vehicle I used was a 97 3/4 ton GMC extended cab, long bed pickup. Plenty of truck to pull, but it made for a huge long rig. I traded that even for a 99 GMC Yukon 4x4. At the time this vehicle was used for nothing but towing the boat. When we had our Chapparrel we had a Lincoln Navigator, then a 3/4 ton Suburban, then a Grand Cherokee Limited V8.

Recently we were looking to get my wife a new vehicle as her current Saab 9-5 was getting to about 120k. We decided to get a vehicle that she could daily drive and we could tow the boat so we could eliminate the maintanance and insurance payment on an extra vehicle.

SO after searching everything out there, and having just borrowed my Dad's Lincoln Navigator Mark LT, I decided that Ford was not the answer. It towed fine, stopped fine, but it was hell trying to get on the highway. No power. Not only that, my wife didnt want a full size vehicle.

Trying to find a midsize SUV that could tow safely was no easy task. After doing some research I found out that the Trailblazer EXT with the 5.3L, 3.73 rear end, had a towing capacity of over 7k. It tows like there isnt even a boat back there. And it was reasonably priced. I am very dissapointed that they stopped making them. We have never owned a vehicle that tows as nice as this one.
