Re: What do you pull your boat with?
We have a Tahoe Q7 boat that measures about 21.5ft, give or take. The first tow vehicle I used was a 97 3/4 ton GMC extended cab, long bed pickup. Plenty of truck to pull, but it made for a huge long rig. I traded that even for a 99 GMC Yukon 4x4. At the time this vehicle was used for nothing but towing the boat. When we had our Chapparrel we had a Lincoln Navigator, then a 3/4 ton Suburban, then a Grand Cherokee Limited V8.
Recently we were looking to get my wife a new vehicle as her current Saab 9-5 was getting to about 120k. We decided to get a vehicle that she could daily drive and we could tow the boat so we could eliminate the maintanance and insurance payment on an extra vehicle.
SO after searching everything out there, and having just borrowed my Dad's Lincoln Navigator Mark LT, I decided that Ford was not the answer. It towed fine, stopped fine, but it was hell trying to get on the highway. No power. Not only that, my wife didnt want a full size vehicle.
Trying to find a midsize SUV that could tow safely was no easy task. After doing some research I found out that the Trailblazer EXT with the 5.3L, 3.73 rear end, had a towing capacity of over 7k. It tows like there isnt even a boat back there. And it was reasonably priced. I am very dissapointed that they stopped making them. We have never owned a vehicle that tows as nice as this one.
