2002 yamaha xlt 800

I'm working on a yamaha xlt 800 was hard to start found it has a burnt piston and has scored cylinder wall. can you reslive them or do you have to replace the motor. If you can reslive them is there any special tools that i will need

No experience with that particular motor, but in general - you can bore & hone the cylinder

if the scoring is that bad, you should be able to re-sleeve it - and LA Sleeve sells them:
