What prop should I get?

I just bought a 2001 Key Largo 160. The engine is a 2002 50 hp Mercury 2 stroke. The current prop has no markings on it as it has been sanded down to bare aluminum. The prop has a few dings in it and I want to replace it. There is a sticker in the foot that states the gear ratio is 1:83 to 1 and it also says 12 X 22. The 12 X 22 couldn't pssibly be the suggested prop size. I am thinking about an 11 X 12 prop. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of boat? The boat has no RPM guage. I appreciate the help.

22 divided by 12 = 1.83. That's just telling you the number of teeth on the gearset, another way of saying gear ratio.

Your guess is as reasonable as anything else. Without a tach you'll never know if it's right or not...
