Re: prop question concerning a low end studdor

I ran a Ranger 17' pad boat with a I6 115 last year they were built. I had a 21P Laser prop on it. At max setup it ran right at 50 and 6000 rpms with me alone in the boat, 2 batteries, 10 gallons or less fuel, and live well dry. I used the same prop to water ski with my light weight son in the boat and my 250# on the slalom. Hole shot worked fine as the prop was ported and that did the trick.

Do you know if the engine was "Brake HP" or "Prop HP" rated. Could make 10-15% difference. Back in 1980 I think you were a little early for prop ratings. So that says you are looking at 100 horses give or take. Then like spike said old age kicking in.

Is that a 15' boat with a pad? Is it like their Wrangler?

I know props have their own signatures, but I too agree that 23P is getting on up there with a 2:1 gearbox. That's more like what you'd run on the 150 XR Mercs with the small gearbox.

My 2c,
Mark
