I have a 1979 Steury 1900 bowrider, with a 1993 Johnson Fast Strike 150 Hp motor. Model number J150GLETR. It currently has a Michigan Wheel 011008 14 1/2 X 19 prop on it. 3 blade. I dont know what speed I was getting because the speedo isnt working, the nipple broke off and I need to replace it, no big deal. The question I have is what is the best prop for this set up. The motor looks like it is mounted on the transom in a typical location, no modifications or anything to bring it out away or up from the transom. I use the boat for tubing and just playin around with my friends, no fishing and mostly on the River and Lake Erie. I am new to boating and would appreciate any help yall could give me.

A couple more tid bits of info for you guys. When I used the prop wizards on the different vendor sites, not a single one listed the 14 1/2 X 19 prop as a recommended prop. Secondly, I do not know what my RPM is right now because the Tach seems to drop out. It works fine when I am running it on shore on the muffs using the high idle, and it reads at low idle with no problem on the water, as i increase throttle i see the tach going up, but when I am at WOT I look down and no tach, I slow down and the tach comes back. A whole different problem I know, but hopefully yall can help me with the prop part.

Ok, I'm an idiot. The tach was working, the tip of the needle is just broken off so when it was at 5000 it looked liked it was at 0...idiot...Anyhow..got the spedo working with a new pitot tube, and this is what I got. 45-46 mph at 5100-5200 rpm. again with a 14 1/2 X 19 prop. I was thinking a smaller diameter for more speed, but what pitch do i go with to add ~300 rpm, or should i not worry about that little bit. thanks.

For just speed you can go to a 21 pitch propeller, but you will lose 400-500 RPM off of WOT. You could have your prop changed to a 21 pitch, and see what kind of results you get out of it.

Well I am concerned about losing RPM. From my research on here and other places, WOT for my engine should be 5500, and I am already below that at 5200, to go any lower would cause problems for the motor, yes? I would like to gain some speed and increase RPM a little bit, thats why I was wondering if a smaller prop with a smller pitch would work, and if so, where abouts should I go,...13 1/2 X 17 14 X 17
