What do I go with?

Ibought a 19.5 bayliner with a 1990 115HP Yamaha
on the back. It came with a Mercury Quicksilver
Prop, 12-3/4"x21. The best rpm's I could get was
4500.
I then bought a Yamaha 13-19K prop and ended up buying a new thrust washer and spacer so I could use it. The best rpm's I got with it was 5200.
I dinged up the Yammie prop and am going to fix it for a spare.
But I have an opportunity to buy a 17P Quicksilver
Black diamond.
Original prop specs called for 13x19, 13.25x17,
12.63x21, and 13.5x15 in the aluminum props.
So... do I buy the Quicksilver prop? Will the same hub kit fit the 21 and 17" OR do I buy a 17"
Yamaha prop? OR Fix the 19" and keep the 21" as
a spare? Will the 17" overrev the motor?
I am tired of spending money on this part of the
boat and would appreciate your advice.

Re: What do I go with?

I believe the quicksilver uses the flo-torq II hub kit, so I would guess it will work in either.
The 17 should net you from 5500-5700...not an over-rev condition by any means.
I do think we could get between 5400 and 5500 with the 19 if you are willing to raise the engine, Provided it's in it's lowest position now.

I actually have the motor raised by 3" already.
Works fine, but you have to watch your trim.
My concern with the 17" was if I gained 700rpm
going from 21 to 19, then would I gain another
700rpm going from 19 to 17 thus having a 6000 limit. I understand I should be around 5500.

You just got into the power band with the 19, hence the 700RPM gain...I don't think you'll get more than 300-400 gain with the correct 17.

Re: What do I go with?

If 17 is correct, you might be right. When I saw the offerings that came with the engine, I realized how many points come into play when trying to figure out what prop to use for your boat. I was hoping there was an easy answer so I didn't have to spend anymore unnecessary money.

Sell the 21 to off-set the cost of a 17..that would help some...
